FANUC Robotics Features New F-200iB parallel-link robot at IMTS 2002

CHICAGO, Sept. 4, 2002 -- FANUC Robotics North America, Inc. will demonstrate the new F-200iB robot at IMTS 2002 at the McCormick Center in Chicago in the East Hall, booth #4202 (shared with GE Fanuc). The F-200iB will highlight robotic deflashing and deburring in a demonstration with the new R-2000iA/200T robot.

The F-200iB is a parallel link, servo-driven robot with six degrees of freedom. Designed for use in a variety of manufacturing and automotive assembly processes, the powerful and compact F-200iB is engineered for applications requiring extreme rigidity and exceptional repeatability. It can be used for material removal, compact robot welding, vehicle lift and locate, pedestal welding, part loading, tool/part manipulation and flexible/convertible fixturing.

The superior rigidity and payload of the F-200iB makes it well suited for the rigors of heavy duty deflashing, drilling and hole cutting. The F-200iB is capable of significantly higher feed rates versus a serial link robot, with up to 200 mm/second for deflashing aluminum castings and up to 35 mm/second for hole cutting of 3 mm thick cold rolled sheet steel. The F-200iB also has increased accuracy due to less robot deflection versus a serial link robot, increased tool life due to less vibration and tool chatter and can include semiautomatic or fully automatic tool change.

At the show, the F-200iB and R-2000iA/200T robots will demonstrate a heavy-payload material handling process. The process includes de-palletizing and handling two 40 kg, inline-6, aluminum engine blocks. Using a simulated horizontal-spindle machine center, the R-2000iA/200T will load and unload engine blocks and manipulate them in front of a FANUC F-200iB robot.

The R-2000iA/200T and F-200iB robots will simulate deflashing of the rough-cast blocks and deburring of the finished, machined blocks. During the machine load/unload cycle, the R-2000iA/200T robot will demonstrate its dexterity by simultaneously moving both blocks through a series of complex motions as it exchanges a finished block for a raw block inside the machine center. After completing each cycle, the robot will palletize the engine blocks and then repeat the entire cycle.

FANUC Robotics North America, Inc. designs, engineers and manufactures innovative robots and robotic systems for a wide range of industries and applications. After 20 years of success, FANUC Robotics maintains its position as the leading robotics company in North America. A subsidiary of FANUC Ltd. in Japan, the company has facilities in Chicago; Los Angeles; Charlotte, N.C; Cincinnati and Toledo, Ohio; Toronto; Montreal; Mexico City; Aguascalientes, Mexico; and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
