Application Developers Have More Options and Capabilities to Extend Microsoft Platforms

PITTSBURGH -- ComponentOne, a leader in developer-productivity tools for building enterprise-level applications for the desktop, Web, and mobile devices, today released Studio Enterprise 2012 v1. This marks the first release of the year for Studio Enterprise, a suite of data and UI controls for Microsoft Visual Studio, including Visual Studio 11 support.

"2012 is going to be a big year for Microsoft Windows and Visual Studio, and in continuing with our tradition we will be sim-shipping new versions of our tools with Microsoft's latest offerings," said Bernardo Castilho, chief technology officer at ComponentOne. "This release is no exception; we are starting the year off by supporting Visual Studio 11 in the Studio Enterprise 2012 v1 release," said Castilho.

The Studio Enterprise v1 release debuts a new HTML5 scheduler control for end-user appointment management. The new ComponentOne Events Calendar control is a fully functional schedule that allows users to add, edit, and manage their appointments. This control joins 40 other ASP.NET controls built on Web standards including AJAX, CSS, HTML5, and jQuery.

The company's reputation has been built on Windows Forms and this release introduces Report Mapping in Studio for WinForms. A new custom report field allows a user to visually display data on maps (using ComponentOne Maps for WPF) in reports. An example of this new feature is available on the ComponentOne website. It details how users may show sales totals per country or state on a graphic map, visualize which geographic areas have the most activity or revenue, and draw lines connecting different cities to show routes or responsibilities. Castilho provided insight that ComponentOne plans to continue support of its popular Studio for WinForms and OLAP for WinForms controls while adding some exciting new features and controls over the next year.

Rounding out the release are the following feature highlights:

-- New themes in Studio for WPF, offering users the most popular toolkit themes from Microsoft Silverlight.
-- A new Metro Calendar control for Windows Phone. Users can now deliver custom Metro-style calendars, obtain gesture-based navigation, date range selection, and easy and flexible styling.

The Studio Enterprise v1 release clearly shows why ComponentOne was recently named as Champion in Info-Tech Research Group's recently published Application Development Tools Vendor Landscape report. Randy Hearn, Senior Research Analyst from Info-Tech Research Group, said, "The report, which evaluated several vendors in the application development space, assessed vendors by the strength of their offering and their strategy for the enterprise." Hearn added, "ComponentOne offers the most well-rounded offering of tools and components covering all the major platforms (desktop, mobile, and Web) pushing them ahead of the pack as the leading Champion in the Vendor Landscape."

Another big announcement in this release is the ComponentOne and Esri relationship that empowers Microsoft Visual Studio developers to enhance the functionality, look, and feel of their mapping applications. Developers are encouraged to use the powerful mapping software from Esri and user-interface (UI) controls from ComponentOne to create compelling line-of-business applications.

During the Esri Partner Conference in Palm Springs, CA, on March 26, 2012, ComponentOne's Director of Business Development, Todd Schick, will announce that ComponentOne UI controls for Microsoft Silverlight, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), and Windows Phone platforms are now powered by Esri mapping software.

"As the uses for maps as a new dimension in data visualization and analysis continues to expand, it's natural to look at ways of incorporating them into our applications. Just as grids, gauges, charts and reports enable rich ways to display and interact with data, so do maps in many new and powerful ways," said Schick.
