Data Transceiver has drop and repeat architecture.

Press Release Summary:

Series D7400 4-Port Transceiver transmits four 10/100 Mbps Ethernet data signals over 1 or 2 multimode or single-mode optical fibers. Signals travel over distances up to 28 miles. Each independently configured RJ-45 port provides MDI/MDIX auto cross feature that detects whether straight through or crossover cables are plugged into port. Multi-port Ethernet Switch offers auto-sensing technology for selection of data rate.

IFS Introduces 10/100 Mbps 4-Port Ethernet Fiber Optic Repeater

New Data Transceiver Provides Drop and Repeat Transmission of Four 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Signals over One Optical Fiber

NEWTOWN, CT. September 23, 2002 - International Fiber Systems Incorporated (IFS), a leading manufacturer of fiber optic transmission equipment, has announced the introduction of its D7400 Series 4-Port Ethernet Transceiver unit. The IFS D7400 series 4-port Ethernet Switch is an environmentally hardened, high-speed data, fiber optic transceiver. This switch will provide drop and repeat transmission of four 10/100 Mbps Ethernet data signals over one or two multimode or single-mode optical fibers.

The D7400 4-port Ethernet Switch provides four (4) RJ-45 ports independently configured for 10 or 100Mbps Ethernet data. Auto-sensing technology is incorporated for automatic selection of either data rate, eliminating the need for any manual adjustments. In addition, each port provides a MDI/MDIX auto cross feature that detects whether a "straight through" or "crossover" cable is plugged into the port thereby reducing any potential interface or installation issues due to incorrect cable selection. The combination of these two features ensure easy, "Plug and Play" installation.

The D7400 can also be used to increase the transmission distance of traditional Ethernet copper-based cabling networks by connecting multiple D7400 transceivers providing through an optical "drop & repeat" architecture. "When transmitting Ethernet data in an optical drop and repeat network using this equipment, distances of up to 28 miles between D7400 series transceivers may be utilized when employing single-mode fiber," Said Nhu Dang, IFS Product Manager. Applications such as corporate data networks, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), Video over IP and other systems requiring extended distance in transmitting Ethernet, that can not be supported by Category 5 cabling is where the D7400 series will be an optimum solution.

"With the convergence of video and data networking with modern security and ITS applications, consultants and dealers were looking for solutions from IFS and we've responded to those requests." Said Bruce Berman, ITS Sales and Marketing Manager, "We at IFS see an increasing demand for Ethernet over optical fiber based networks. The D7400 was designed for applications such as traffic incident detection and signalization networks, where video and traffic signal control data need to be transported through long distance wide area networks, and industrial security and factory automation where problems such as electrical and radio interference and harsh out-of-plant conditions are always a problem. The inherent benefits of Ethernet over optical fiber and the D7400 Series specifically will be in great demand due to the industrial hardening representative of all IFS Products." said Berman.

The D7400 Series has an ambient operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to +74 degrees C. The unit features network fault incident detecting LEDs that assist the installer and user easily identify operating status and data presence without the need for test equipment. In addition, dry relay contacts are available to activate an external alarm in the event of fiber break or loss of power. Like all IFS products, the IFS D7400 Series features plug and play design that ensures easy installation without the need for any electrical or optical adjustments. The transceiver is available in stand-alone or rack mount versions and like all IFS products, they are backed by an exclusive Lifetime Product Warranty.

Established in 1989, IFS is at the forefront of advances in fiber optic technologies. The company offers more than 300 analog and digital fiber optic products for commercial and industrial applications, which include CCTV, access control, data transmission, fire and alarm system applications, intelligent transportation systems, facility and building automation, and broadcast systems.
