May 11, 2007 - Able to reduce and protect data without degrading storage network performance, Express DR 600/1000 data reduction accelerator boards double performance of any nearline system by halving cutting replication, archiving, migration, and backup windows. Both boards utilize LZS lossless compression algorithm and offer load-balancing, bus-mastering DMA, and 4-lane PCI Express bus. Enhanced LZS (eLZS) technology eliminates data expansion while maintaining compressed data performance.

Hifn Accelerates Data Reduction for Nearline Storage Applications

Express DR Acceleration Boards Double Performance, Deliver Zero-Defect Data

LOS GATOS, Calif., April 16 -- Hifn(TM), the power behind network and information security, announced today the availability of the Express DR 1000 and Express DR 600 data reduction acceleration boards for nearline storage applications. The Express DR family is targeted to customers who need to reduce and protect their data, but without degrading their storage network performance.

"As digital information is used in more places, on more devices, by more users each day, the growth rates are pushing data management to the limits. Customers increasingly are looking for ways to maximize their existing storage infrastructures before purchasing more storage, let alone building entirely new datacenters," said Dave Reinsel, Director, Storage Research, IDC. "A data reduction solution, similar to Hifn's, that doesn't compromise on system performance or integrity, can be a significant part of maximizing a company's storage environment."

In 2010, IDC forecasts the industry to ship over 16 exabytes, a ~51% Compounded Annual Growth Rate from 2005-2010*. Additionally, an IDC study sponsored by EMC predicts that 2007 will be the year when more digital content is created than total storage capacity available.**

"As experts in compression for the storage market with our patented LZS compression algorithm, we are expanding our data reduction solutions to address the growing nearline storage market," said Michael Goldgof, vice president of product marketing for Hifn. "Hifn's powerful, hardware- advantaged compression enables high performance data reduction and recovery, two requirements enterprises need to handle their data storm."

Express DR Family

Hifn's Express DR family of data reduction accelerator boards double the performance of any nearline system, by cutting replication, archiving, migration, and backup windows in half. The Express DR family also doubles the capacity of nearline appliances, enabling faster network performance and longer data retention with fewer RAID drives.

Utilizing the industry-standard LZS lossless compression algorithm, the Express DR family of data reduction boards offer load-balancing, bus-mastering DMA, and a 4-lane PCI Express bus. The boards also offer a unique "enhanced" LZS (eLZS) technology, eliminating data expansion while maintaining compressed data performance. Hifn provides a Linux driver and high-level APIs to facilitate seamless integration into nearline appliances. Express DR also offers high-assurance features which verify data record integrity during processing, and assure data transfers through host memory and to the storage media and back.

Availability

The Express DR 1000 provides up to 1GB of data reduction performance in a full-height, half-length PCIe form factor and the Express DR 600 provides up to 600MB of data reduction performance in a half-height, half-length PCIe form factor. Both the Express DR 1000 and 600 are available now.
