MAHLE Powertrain Announces New DataLogiq(TM) Web-Integrated Analysis Solution

MAHLE Powertrain introduced its new Web-Integrated DataLogiq(TM) smart vehicle data recorder for vehicle validation testing during the Automotive Testing Expo North America 2005 in Novi, Mich. The new, easy-to-use data recorder, which has the ability to simultaneously monitor hundreds of parallel vehicle events, features wireless data transmission, web-based updates and analysis, and a smart vehicle-installation wizard. DataLogiq is available immediately from MAHLE Powertrain's Test Systems group.

"Our new DataLogiq smart vehicle-data recorder is the perfect tool for validation engineers, whether they are involved in field testing individual vehicles or entire fleets," said Scott Bolt, manager, Architecture, Design and Strategy, MAHLE Powertrain. "The data recorder's feature-rich, PDA-based architecture makes it durable, powerful and easily configurable. Plus, unlike ruggedized portable PCs, its low power draw makes it chargeable through any industry-standard J-1962 vehicle interface, for long-term vehicle operation with zero sleep current."

Architecture Provides Numerous Advantages
Bolt said the DataLogiq smart vehicle data recorder is easily integrated with a variety of peripherals, including scanners, printers, RFIDs, wireless LANs, cellular modems, keypads and chargers. This gives the unit a number of operational advantages, including:
Flexible testing locations - Inclusion of a cellular modem in the system allows acquisition of data and event reprogramming of the DataLogiq units while fleet vehicles remain in service.
Lower head count - The ease of installation and wireless data capture of the DataLogiq require fewer field engineers, enabling more work to get done in less time and allowing the re-tasking of technical personnel to other key projects.
Lower-cost installation - The DataLogiq vehicle recorder's smart installation wizard requires no auxiliary data or power connectors, making installation simpler and less costly than with PC-based systems.
Easy integration into existing production processes - DataLogiq's PDA architecture allows for simple third-party support for USB, serial and Bluetooth devices already in use by the OEM, enabling supplementary data (emissions, etc.) to easily be collected.

Because of its powerful processor and multiple gigabytes of data storage, the DataLogiq smart vehicle data recorder looks for user-programmable vehicle system events and captures high-resolution data in a user-defined time window around each event. The recorder then forwards the data set to the Internet-base testing database, through a cellular modem, for real-time data acquisition.

DataLogiq Analysis Software Suite Offers Power, Flexibility
By using the DataLogiq smart data recorder in concert with the DataLogiq analysis software suite, engineers can conduct a variety of administrative and analytical tasks right from their office desk on the data that's been logged remotely from any number of recorders. These powerful tools manage incoming data from the DataLogiq smart data recorder automatically, even when engineers are not in the office, and can be configured to provide real-time pager and e-mail alerts.

The integrated, modular software suite includes components for reporting, test management, administration, and repair management, and eliminates the need for costly third-party analysis and data-management software from other vendors. The modules include:
ReportLogiq(TM) - A flexible, Web-based reporting solution that offers individual custom reports, filters and real-time pager and e-mail alerts.
TestLogiq(TM) - A test-development and graphical-authoring tool that allows one Datalogiq recorder to be easily set up for many vehicles at a time. Graphical monitor sequencing allows re-use of previously created monitors in a "drag and drop" GUI.
AdminLogiq(TM) - This Web-based module allows the user to update and monitor test systems from his or her desk. Critical test information can be gathered, or critical updates to systems dispatched, with just a few keystrokes.

In addition to automaker validation and durability testing, DataLogiq is ideal for assisting vehicle dealerships in troubleshooting intermittent problems in complex electrical or electronic systems. Its remote-data collection capabilities allow dealerships to install DataLogiq in customer vehicles to collect information that goes far beyond the simple data provided by OBD-II technology. DataLogiq's remote-reporting capability can alert dealership service personnel that event information has been collected and allow them to contact the customer to bring the vehicle in for timely repair.

"There's no longer a need to tie up an expensive mechanic at up to $100 an hour in road testing a problem that he may or may not witness, due to its intermittent nature," said Bolt. "DataLogiq will monitor the vehicle's systems until a condition occurs, then record all of the pertinent conditions in a time window around the event which the dealer can review to determine a repair strategy."

The DataLogiq smart vehicle recorder and the DataLogiq software suite are available immediately from MAHLE Powertrain by calling (248) 471-5000.
