Splunk, Inc. Releases the Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange

Enables Microsoft Exchange customers to improve reliability and expedite security investigations

SAN FRANCISCO -- Splunk®, Inc., the leading provider of operational intelligence software, today released the Splunk App(TM) for Microsoft® Exchange. The Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange provides continuous monitoring and reporting of Microsoft Exchange 2007 and Microsoft Exchange 2010 infrastructures. By converging operations and security data into integrated real-time client behavior dashboards that depict patterns of Exchange usage, the Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange enables Exchange administrators to improve the operational reliability of their environments and speed security investigations.

Microsoft Exchange Administrators can use the Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange to perform end-to-end message tracking, quickly determine client usage patterns that require remediation, and perform root cause analysis of performance and availability issues. Exchange specialists now can offload some troubleshooting tasks to the IT helpdesk and focus on maintaining messaging service reliability and performance. IT professionals can respond to security incidents or HR requests in a timely manner. IT decision makers have access to the information so they can build long range plans to support evolution in their messaging infrastructure.

"The traditional method of managing, monitoring and securing Microsoft Exchange environments involves navigating across a set of siloed technologies," said Rachel Chalmers, Research Director Infrastructure Management of The 451 Group. "Without a unified view into the messaging environment, Exchange and Windows administrators lack the operational visibility needed to easily respond to ad hoc requests, troubleshoot issues, plan capacity and provide compliance reporting. With a core capability to index data from any source, the new Splunk App for MS Exchange breaks down these traditional silos."

"The new Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange has enabled new monitoring and auditing capabilities previously unattainable in our environment," said James Klassen, Exchange Administrator at Manitoba Hydro. "The App provides us both broad monitoring capabilities and the ability to drill down into data that wasn't accessible before. After using the beta release we are impressed."

The Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange is based on the Splunk engine for machine data. Splunk's technology enables organizations to index, search and analyze in real time terabytes of data per day from Exchange servers as well as other parts of the IT infrastructure. Splunk's dashboards provide visualization for continuous, at-a-glance monitoring, while its powerful search language enables deep insight and quick answers to critical operational questions and security investigations. Prior to the release of this app customers had to use multiple tools to get the same benefits. The new Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange enables Splunk users to have this functionality without additional development effort.

"The beauty of the Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange is its ability to support the various use cases related to managing and securing Microsoft Exchange environments," said Steve Sommer, Chief Marketing Officer of Splunk. "The App collects and aggregates message tracking, security and client usage information in a single location so it can be used for individual tasks or collaboration among users. It also provides end-to-end visibility across all other application and infrastructure systems monitored by Splunk."

The Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange is available immediately from SplunkBase(TM) - the community site for Splunk apps. Please visit www.splunk.com/goto/exchange. The Splunk App for Microsoft Exchange is free to use, but requires a Splunk Enterprise(TM) license.
