December 20, 2011 - Accommodating bending radii of 6.8 x d and 7.5 x d in dynamic moving applications, respectively, Chainflex CF11 (TPE) and Chainflex CF211 (PVC) series let engineers build smaller machines while retaining optimal data throughput and service life. EMC-resistant cables retain data integrity even after 30 million bending processes. Stable braiding features 2 cores, each stranded in pairs with short pitch lengths, and core pairs also stranded with short pitch lengths.

Reducing Design Space

igus GmbH, Cologne, carries out more than six hundred performance tests every year at its large in-house Technical Centre. Some tests run for as long as six or seven years. Now, the energy chain and cable specialist is offering its existing "Chainflex CF11" and "Chainflex CF211" series data cables for smaller bending radii in highly dynamic moving applications, such as energy chains. This solution saves space, allowing design engineers to build even smaller and smarter machines, whilst retaining high speeds and a long service life.

Upgrading for energy chains
This upgrade was made possible by a series of representative tests carried out over a period of two years, with special attention to the cable shield, core pitch lengths and the individual strand size of the core wires. At the end of 2008, the continual improvement process kicked off with the aim of further extending service life without increasing costs. The cables survived more than 30 million double strokes, or 36,691 km travel, in the energy chain with a test radius of 5xd without any damage whatsoever. Result: the permissible bending radius for the "CF11" TPE measuring system cable has been able to be reduced by 32 percent from 10xd to 6.8xd, and that of the PVC variant "CF211" by 25 percent from 10xd to 7.5xd.

Still EMC-resistant with data integrity after 30 million bending processes
The high-tech "CF11" data cable has a particularly abrasion-proof and bend-resistant, halogen-free, oil and bio-oil-resistant TPE outer jacket and an inner jacket that is also made of a TPE mixture specially

New: Data cables for thirty percent smaller bending radii designed for the mechanical requirements in energy chains. The cable has extremely stable braiding: two cores each stranded in pairs with short pitch lengths, core pairs also stranded with short pitch lengths.

Thanks to the extremely high stability of the overall shielding and the stranding, maximum EMC protection with high data transmission qualities are confirmed even with bending radiuses reduced by thirty percent. Similar properties are confirmed for the "CF211" low cost PVC version which is oil-resistant and flame-retardant, with its extremely bend-resistant tin-plated braided copper shield (coverage approx. 70% linear, 90% optical).

Like all other igus cables, the two data cables are available now ex stock within 24 hours or the same day, without cutting costs minimum order quantity.
