New Low-Torque Electronic Damper Actuators from Siemens

Designed to return to fail-safe position on power loss

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill., January 17, 2008 ; With the introduction of its low-torque OpenAir(TM) GQD Series of spring-return, rotary electronic damper actuators, Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. HVAC Products Division offers system designers an energy-efficient solution plus enhanced performance features. When used in commercial dampers, economizer equipment, variable air volume installations and residential zone dampers these low-torque actuators will return to the fail-safe position upon power failure to protect equipment.

The OpenAir GQD Series is designed as a direct-coupled, spring-return electronic actuator for modulating, two-position or floating control of building HVAC dampers. These units feature fail-safe, bi-directional spring return, are pre-cabled, plenum-rated, offer a fast run time under 30 seconds, function with running/spring return 20 lb-in (2 Nm) torque and offer signal inversion capability on modulating types providing a 2 -10 or 10 - 2 VDC control signal. Perfect in economizer applications where two actuators can be run off one signal; one actuator is in the direct acting mode on outside air, while the second is set in inverse mode to control the return air. All units in the series are UL and cUL Listed, as well as CE Certified.

Because the series is UL94V flame-rated, when local codes allow, no conduit is required for low voltage (24 VAC/DC) plenum-rated product installed in a plenum space, for further cost savings. With a compact design, only 4.7" x 2.7" x 2.5", these actuators fit easily into tight spaces.

Running from either AC or DC power, GQD Series actuators can operate off a DC back-up power supply. All units offer low power consumption, 4 VA typical, for lower energy usage, allowing more actuators to run off a single transformer. The pre-cabled damper actuator is supplied with mounting bracket, screws and hex key and is available for immediate delivery.
