ARRIS Introduces DOCSIS 3.0 EMTA and Cable Modems
SUWANEE, Ga., Jan. 9 / / -- ARRIS (NASDAQ:ARRS) today announced the introduction of the Touchstone(R) TM702 Embedded Multimedia Terminal Adapter (EMTA), which provides converged voice and data service with data speeds up to 160 Mbps. As noted at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, these speeds are critical to ensure cable operators maintain a competitive offering with which to combat telco fiber solutions.
Consumers demanding such advanced capabilities will also demand converged and simple-to-use home devices from their service providers. The TM702 EMTA enables MSOs to cost-effectively deliver on this expectation by bundling two lines of carrier grade VoIP telephone service with DOCSIS 3.0 bonded channel ultra high-speed capability. As MSOs continue to accelerate the roll out of triple play packages to their most valuable customers, the business case advantages of an integrated voice and data premises device becomes ever more compelling.
During Q3 of 2007, an inflection point was reached where global EMTA (voice-enabled cable modems) shipments exceeded those of data-only modem shipments. "ARRIS is extending its leadership in cable voice over IP with this DOCSIS 3.0-based EMTA product family," said Bruce McClelland, President of the ARRIS Communications Group. "We have developed our next generation of EMTAs and data modems as a direct response to cable MSO requests for increased speed and reliability, as they go head-to-head with competitors to serve their most demanding and profitable market segment."
The Touchstone TM702 EMTA series offers a variety of battery, non-battery and region-specific configurations (DOCSIS, Euro-DOCSIS and Japanese annex standards). Additionally, ARRIS offers a family of DOCSIS 3.0 data only cable modems, branded as WBM750. The WBM750 family of ultra high speed modems is the next generation of the highly successful pre-DOCSIS 3.0 WBM650 family which provide up to 160 plus Mbps of throughput speed to cable subscribers.
