New Gore(TM) Extended Reach DDR Cable Assemblies

MORE THAN TRIPLE THE REACH OF DDR INFINIBAND(TM) CABLES

Elkton, Md. (November 2006) - W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) introduces the latest innovation in high data rate cable assemblies that more than triples the reach of Double Data Rate (DDR) InfiniBand(TM) cables as well as reduces the size and weight for enhanced flexibility and ease of routing. GORE(TM) Extended Reach DDR Cable Assemblies utilize the patented self-equalizing GORE(TM) EYE-OPENER+® Conductor Technology combined with Q:Active(TM) ultra-small, low power analog semiconductors from Quellan to deliver exceptional signal fidelity over longer distances in the smallest cross-sectional area.

"These new cable assemblies promise to fill a reach void in the market between passive copper and optics at DDR signaling speeds," said Eric Gaver, business leader for Gore's Advanced Digital Interconnects. "We're excited to work with Quellan, a leader in analog signal integrity devices, to provide this cost-effective cabling solution."

GORE(TM) Extended Reach DDR Cable Assemblies provide users with the architectural freedom to enable today's expansive cluster footprints within mega data centers. These small and light-weight cables significantly reduce cable bundle size allowing for increased system airflow along with ease of routability and flexibility. In addition, they offer improved performance resulting from low power consumption, low latency, reduced crosstalk and increased margins. This series of improvements lowers capital expenditures, reduces operating expenses, and increases freedom in designing or expanding existing data centers.

"The need for extended interconnect reach, reduced weight and latency, and increased air flow is of paramount importance to next generation data centers," said Lloyd Dickman, CTO, System Interconnect Group, QLogic. "Quellan and Gore have clearly demonstrated that their active cable collaboration has yielded an innovative family of products to meet this burgeoning market need."

Cable solutions include InfiniBand(TM) SDR, DDR and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (CX-4), all with Gore's performance leading GORE(TM) EYE-OPENER+® Conductor Technology at gauges ranging from 24 to 30 gauge at lengths ranging from 5 to 50 meters.

"Our data center partners have expressed the need for increased airflow, lower power, low latency and greater cluster reach in their mega data centers," said Tony Stelliga, Chairman and CEO of Quellan, Inc. "We are delighted to deliver a solution with the industry's leading high performance cable vendor - Gore."
