New MS Series Inverter Provides Integrated Power Solution for 20" and Larger LCD Modules
Endicott, NY, June 2003 - The new MS Series DC-AC inverter from Endicott Research Group (ERG) Inc. provides up to 45 W of output power for high-efficiency, reliable and low-cost backlighting of LCDs 20" diagonal and larger in size that are powered by six cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs).
The MS Series increases reliability by providing multiple fully-encapsulated transformers to ensure reliable CCF lamp ignition and prevent cross-talk.
"When you power lamps that clustered together, there tends to be a lot of cross-talk," said Don Jensen, Director of Engineering at ERG. "The MS Series inverter provides three transformers for LCDs backlit by two clusters of three CCFLs each. One transformer backlights lamp 1 of each cluster, the next transformer backlights lamp 2 of each cluster, and the third transformer backlights lamp 3 of each cluster."
By separating the lamps in each CCFL cluster, the MS Series inverter keeps them from interacting and prevents the current from jumping from lamp to lamp, eliminating problems with cross-talk.
The MS Series also features on-board PWM (pulse width modulation) dimming with analog control.
Applications for which this high-power, high-reliability inverter is ideal include medical diagnostic displays, financial terminals, industrial monitors and gaming equipment.
