New Senpai Low Input Voltage POL Converters Deliver up to 30A

FDK now offers complete line of high performance POLs in standard packages

San Jose, CA and Tokyo, Japan - July 21, 2008 - FDK Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange 1st Section: Code 6955), a global electronic component and battery manufacturer, expands its Senpai Series of non-isolated point of load (POL) converters with the addition of eight new products comprising the FPMR05T and FPLR05T dc/dc converters. Offered in industry-standard footprints, these converters operate from a 2.4 Volt to 5.5 Volt (V) DC input bus and provide a tightly-regulated programmable output voltage in the range of 0.75V - 3.63V DC. At the leading edge for POL converters in these standard sizes and input voltage range, the FPMR05T converters deliver up to 10 Amperes (A) of output current, and the FPLR05T converters deliver up to 30A. Little or no derating is needed up to 85 degrees Celsius.

The FPMR05T converters are available in 6A, 8A, and 10A output current models, in a 0.90x0.40x0.195 inch (22.9x10.2x4.95mm) industry-standard SIP package. The FPLR05T converters are offered in 10A, 16A, 20A, 25A, and 30A output current models, in a 2.0x0.535x0.315 inch (50.8x13.6x8.0mm) industry-standard SIP package. All models feature remote ON/OFF, over-current and over-temperature protection, and output voltage adjust, and are compatible with standard trim equations.

These Senpai Series dc/dc converters are designed for Intermediate Bus Architecture (IBA) and Distributed Power Architecture (DPA) applications that require high efficiency, tight regulation, and high reliability in elevated temperature environments. At an output voltage of 3.3V, the FPMR05T converters deliver up to 10A of output current with no derating in ambient temperatures of up to 85 degrees Celsius under natural convection, and the FPLR05T converters deliver up to 30A with no derating in ambient temperatures of up to 70 degrees Celsius with 400LFM (2m/s) airflow. This excellent thermal performance results from electrical, thermal, and packaging design that is optimized for high density circuit card conditions.

"With the addition of the FPMR05T and the FPLR05T converters to the Senpai Series, FDK can now offer a complete line-up of high performance POLs in industry-standard SIP and SMD packages, covering the range up to 30A, for 12V, 5V and 3.3V distribution rails," said Dr. Apurba Roy, executive advisor, FDK Corporation.

All Senpai Series products are RoHS compliant. They are manufactured using FDK's state-of-the-art in-house manufacturing processes and systems in Japan. In quantities of 1,000 pieces, the FPMR05T converters are priced at $6.00, $7.50, and $9.00 for the 6A, 8A, and 10A models, respectively, and the FPLR05T converters are priced at $10.00, $12.50, $15.00, $17.00 and $19.00 for the 10A, 16A, 20A, 25A, and 30A models, respectively. Samples are available now. For more information visit our website at www.fdk.com, or e-mail us at qualitydcdc@fdk.com.
