DC-DC Converters offer up to 10 kVdc isolation in DIP24 case.

REC 3.5 and REC 6 families of dc-dc converters have power ratings of 3.5 and 6 W and offer 10 kVdc and 5 kVac isolation, respectively. Re³-Inforced transformer technology with triple isolated windings ensures low leakages required for medical applications, while permanent short circuit and overload protection meets EN, CSA, and CB specifications. Max ambient operating temperature without de-rating and with natural convection cooling is at +85°C for REC 3.5 and +75°C for REC 6.

RECOM Engineers Crack the 10kV Barrier for DIP 24 DC/DC Converters
Dreieich, Germany - RECOM, the company that first developed and brought to market the popular R-78 product family, has done it again. The company's engineers designed a DC/DC-converter in a DIP24 case that breaks the 10kV barrier. These new converters, the REC 3.5- and REC 6- families, offer 10kVDC resp.5 kVAC isolation.
At the heart of this new development is a new transformer concept, based on the "Re³-Inforced" Technology, for which patents have already been applied. Although much smaller than conventional transformers this new concept features triple isolated transformer windings. Not only has the size been significantly reduced, the winding capacity has also been reduced by a factor 3 down to 20pF. This feature ensures extremely low leakages as are required in medical applications, where the electronic circuit is in contact with the patient.
These new converter families have power ratings of 3.5 and 6 watts and therefore offer a 20% higher power rating compared to their predecessors and reach an 86% efficiency level. The max. ambient operating temperature without de-rating and with natural convection cooling is specified at +85°C for the REC 3.5. For the more powerful REC 6 the ambient operating temperature is +75°C. The case temperature can reach up to +105°C.
All converters feature permanent short circuit and overload protection and conform to EN, CSA and CB specifications. They are available with the two most common pin-outs and can optionally be delivered with under voltage feature and a remote pin.
Apart from medical applications these highly insulated DC/DC-converters are also ideally suited for industrial applications, such as energy- and high voltage applications or in IGBT-circuits.
