Dyneon Offers a Wide Array of Custom Compounding Options

Parts Manufacturers Count On Performance And Easy Identification Of Speckled Parts Made With Dyneon(tm) PTFE Custom Compounds

Oakdale, Minn. - (July 9, 2002) - Dyneon, one of the world's leading custom PTFE compounders, provides a range of more than 2200 different standard and specialty compounds. The company's compounding expertise includes the ability to consistently produce uniformly speckled compounds.

This uniformity is particularly important to parts suppliers looking for identification solutions that can help automakers more effectively brand their parts, while maintaining the same repeatable product integrity.

"The opportunities for speckled parts are endless. An example of one such opportunity is warranty claims. When OEM parts are color coded, dealers and mechanics can easily determine when non-OEM parts have been used," says Mike Haley, PTFE Marketing, Dyneon.

Another good example of how speckling can benefit manufacturers can be found on an assembly line. If two parts with very similar appearance but different uses are found, speckling can allow the parts to be easily distinguished and help eliminate the likelihood of assembly mistakes.

Speckled Dyneon(tm) Custom PTFE Compounds

Dyneon(tm) Custom PTFE compounds are produced by mixing PTFE with
inorganic or organic fillers. These fillers are used to improve wear and abrasion resistance, reduce deformation under load, add color, and/or improve other properties.

"Consistency is a big point when we talk about speckling," says Haley. "Our technical and service personnel will work closely with a parts manufacturer to make sure that they always get exactly what they want, every time."

Speckled parts maintain the same proven performance as other PTFE
compounds including low friction, excellent wear resistance, long-term durability, temperature resistance up to 260°C (500°F), and reduction in deformation under load - alternatively described as cold flow resistance.

Speckled compounds are available in free-flow and pre-sintered grades. Dyneon's technical and sales professionals are available to work with customers to help them determine the suitability of any compound in a given application.

Dyneon LLC, a 3M company, is one of the world's leading fluoropolymer producers with operations or representation in more than 50 countries. Headquartered in Oakdale, Minn., the company employs more than 900 people worldwide.
