Sunpower Introduces Higher Efficiency, Longer Life Mini Cryocooler

ATHENS, OH – Sunpower Inc., a leader in Stirling engine and cryocooler development, announces the release of the CryoTel® DS 1.5 Stirling Cryocooler. This new addition to the Sunpower cryocooler portfolio brings gas-bearing technology to the mini cyrocooler market.

The advantages of the CryoTel DS 1.5 over existing technologies are a higher power density, a longer life, and a higher efficiency. The DS 1.5 features a dual-opposed-piston pressure wave generator and a separate cold head to minimize exported vibration and acoustic noise. An optional passive balancer further reduces cold head vibration for sensitive applications. Both the cold head and the pressure wave generator can be mounted in any orientation.

The CryoTel DS 1.5 offers maximum performance, reliability, and efficiency throughout its lifetime. Potential applications include high-temperature superconductivity, infrared detectors, radio frequency receivers or antennas, astronomical telescopes, or any application in which temperatures reach 125-40 Kelvin. The nominal heat lift of the new product is 1.5 watts at 77 Kelvin.

Sunpower's high-reliability cryocoolers are suitable for use anywhere liquid nitrogen is used. They provide cryogenic cooling for such applications as radioisotope detection, materials research, high-temperature superconductivity, cryogenic preservation, laser cooling and medical devices.

Sunpower is a unit within AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technologies (AMT), which is a division of AMETEK, Inc, a leading global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices with annual sales of $3.6 billion.  More information is available at www.sunpowerinc.com
