Covering Agent protects strain gauges from damage.
December 26, 2008 -
Single-component silicone rubber covering agent, SG 200, forms waterproof, electrically-insulated layer over measuring point by absorbing humidity at ambient temperature to protect strain gauge from mechanical damage, water, and humidity. Used in temperatures from -55 to +200°C, product is applied directly to strain gauge and its surrounding area. Measuring point is ready for use within 24-96 hr, and material's opacity helps protect against inadvertent tampering.

Covering Agent Protects Strain Gages from Damage
HBM has launched a one-component silicone rubber covering agent for installed strain gages. The SG 200 covering agent forms a waterproof, electrically-insulated layer over the measuring point by absorbing humidity at ambient temperature to protect the strain gage from mechanical damage, water and humidity.
The material is opaque and renders the strain gage installation virtually invisible to give added protection against inadvertent tampering.
The SG 200 covering agent is available in 85 g tubes and is applied directly to the strain gage and its surrounding area. The measuring point is ready for use within 24 to 96 hours, depending on the layer thickness, when the layer is fully formed.
SG 200 can be used in temperature ranges of -55 °C to +200 °C and a single tube is sufficient for covering about 20 measuring points.
