SiTel Launches First CAT-iq Voice Module for VoIP DSL Application

Easy-to-use, software-upgradeable modules reduce development time and effort for cable modems and IADs with integrated cordless telephony

's-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, 18 August 2008 - SiTel Semiconductor today announced the launch of a range of cordless voice modules (CVMs) for VoIP applications in internet access devices (IADs) and cable modem base stations. Containing all necessary hardware and software, the module allows manufacturers to add cordless telephony into their DSL or cable modem application without requiring RF or DECT design knowledge. In addition, the module's software can be regularly updated to keep pace with the CAT-iq standard.

The new CVM480 PCM is a flexible CAT-iq / DECT 6.0 solution that can be easily integrated into any IAD on the market using standard codec interfaces. It is based on SiTel's proven SC14480 baseband IC and CAT-iq software, optimized for IAD and cable modem applications. A pure voice engine, the module delivers superior voice quality through G.722 wideband audio.

"IADs and DSL routers with built in VoIP capabilities are a hot topic in the residential market," says Jos van der Loop, CVM Product Marketing Manager. "SiTel is the first to market with a simple and compact CAT-iq module that can easily be integrated into existing IAD solutions to add cordless functionality - irrespective of the manufacturer's level of RF design experience."

SiTel plans to release Flash, RAM and ROM versions of the CVM, providing customers with a smooth cost-reduction roadmap. The first member of the range, the Flash version, is already in volume production and development kits are available.

To complete their product offering, manufacturers can take advantage of SiTel's Natalie CAT-iq software stack to develop their own handsets. Alternatively, SiTel has a network of ODMs and design partners offering numerous possibilities for basic or advanced CAT-iq handsets.

About the SC14480

The world's first monolithic integrated DECT/DCT solution in standard CMOS, the SC14480 is the first device in SiTel's single-chip product family. As the most flexible member it comes with Flash memory, making it ideal for product development, production ramp-up or in applications requiring regular software upgrades. Further there are various ROM/ RAM memory variants available and also a version with a LCD driver for the low end segment.

The 80 MIPS Gen2DSP core provides enough processing power to run telephone answering machine voice compression, advanced ring-tones and support the superior voice quality of the CAT-iq standard. The SC14480 can operate directly from 2 battery cells and includes an integrated white LED driver to support higher voltages, reducing external component costs. Li-Ion battery support also makes the chip ideal for headset applications.

About CAT-iq

Cordless Advanced Technology - internet and quality (CAT-iq) is the new global technology for broadband home connectivity. Based on the regulative rules of the mature and reliable DECT standard, it supports exciting consumer products for wireless home communication, information and entertainment.
