Bilz Cooling Station Expands Capabilities of ThermoGrip™ Toolholding Systems

Elk Grove Village, III., Feb. 3 -- Bilz Tool Company, an ISO 9000 global leader in tool holder products, announces the availability of its ISGK 2002 Cooling Station, designed to increase the number of cooling positions of all the Bilz ISG ThermoGrip units. The double cooling station is processor-controlled, allowing the operating time of each cooling position to be adjusted separately.

The compact unit measures 270 mm deep x 380 mm wide by 120 mm in height and operates from 230-volt power. The ISGK is especially well-suited for the Single Station ThermoGrip™ thermic tool clamping system, making these economical units an ideal package for smaller shops. Plus, easy portability of the units make them convenient to use in remote locations of larger manufacturing facilities, away from tool presetting areas.

Based on proportional temperature expansion of solid materials, shrinking provides the high, uniform clamping forces necessary for clamping cylindrical cutting tools into holders for high-speed machining. The ThermoGrip system makes shrinking practical for many production applications through the use of a high-energy induction heating coil. The localized nature of the electromagnetic field heats the clamping area of the toolholder in less than 10 seconds, reducing heat transfer through the rest of the chuck body and shank. Where conventional systems heat the tool clamping unit to the point that the entire holder is too hot to touch, ThermoGrip provides heat transfer canisters to protect the operator. This allows tools to be handled and changed in just two to three minutes, improving safety and shortening the cycle time of tool setting operations.

Bilz Tool Co., Inc., part of the Leitz Metalworking Technology Group of companies (Oberkochen, Germany), manufactures a premier line of high technology tool holders for drilling, tapping and reaming and end milling. There are Bilz products in every powertrain manufacturing plant in the world.
