Converters connect fiber optic link terminals to controller.

March 29, 2006 - Connected respectively via DB-15 and RJ-45 connector, Models 4127 and 4129 convert RS-485/RS-422 serial communication interface to HP Versatile Link plastic core cable and provide full galvanic isolation between connected devices. They allow electrostatic or electromagnetic interference-free data transfer of optical fibers to be utilized by devices with RS-485/RS-422 interface, enabling data transfer rates greater than 20 Kbps.

New Converters Connect Fiber Optic Link Terminals to Controller

New RS-485 Converters Enable Connection of HP Fiber Optic Linked Terminals To RS-485 Port of Controller

Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL), Cranston, RI, announces its new pair of HP Fiber/RS-485 Converters. These converters are used to connect fiber optic linked terminals to a controller having an RS-485/RS-422 interface port. While RS-485 is a versatile communication standard able to communicate over long distances and at fast data rates, conversion to a fiber optic communication standard also allows data transmission that is no longer susceptible to electrostatic or electromagnetic fields. Additionally, the ports of the connected terminals are protected from damage by potential differences (ground variations) that often exist between them.

The Model 4127 connects via a DB-15 connector and the Model 4129 connects via an RJ-45 connector. These products convert RS-485/RS-422 serial communication interface to HP Versatile Link plastic core cable. They provide full galvanic isolation (no metallic connection) between connected devices. The Models 4127 and 4129 allow the interference free data transfer of optical fibers to be utilized by devices with an RS-485/RS-422 interface. The data transfer rate is greater than 20 Kbps. These products are configurable for use at the DCE and at the DTE.
