ServerEngines Makes Available 10Gb Converged Network Adapter (CNA) Cards for IBM Servers

IBM Qualifies the 10 Gigabit Ethernet cards based on ServerEngines' BladeEngine technology

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 17 /- ServerEngines Corporation, a pioneer in I/O virtualization and converged Ethernet solutions for enterprise computing, announced today the availability of two 10 Gigabit Ethernet Converged Network Adapter (CNA) cards for IBM BladeCenter and System x customers.

ServerEngines will make available to IBM customers the industry's first CNA that delivers standards-based 10 Gigabit (10Gb) Ethernet and full protocol offload SCSI over IP (iSCSI) Storage Area Network (SAN) capabilities on a single card. The combination of ServerEngines CNA cards and IBM servers allows users to benefit from the high bandwidth and low latency of 10Gb Ethernet networks.

"IBM BladeCenter's open architecture allows companies to use it as a building block to create new products like ServerEngines' CNA cards. This reduces system design costs for third parties and lowers costs for customers while creating a broad ecosystem of products for the BladeCenter platform," said Alex Yost, vice president, IBM BladeCenter. "By collaborating with ServerEngines, IBM is providing our customers with new choices in the rapidly growing 10Gb solutions space."

"We are very excited to be working with IBM, the world leader in providing innovative and affordable bladed infrastructure solutions to datacenters around the world," said Raju Vegesna, CEO, ServerEngines. "The ServerEngines 10Gb CNA with full iSCSI offload is ideal for supporting environments that require scalability, shared IP storage and reliable uptimes needed to meet the demands of business critical applications."

IBM has qualified both the ServerEngines BEM3I10 High-Speed I/O expansion card for use in IBM BladeCenter servers through the IBM BladeCenter Interoperability Program and the BEA3X10 stand-up PCIe adapter card for use in IBM System x servers through the IBM System x Compatibility program .

In addition, ServerEngines 10Gb CNAs have passed the VMware ESX 3.5 NIC Hardware Compatibility Tests in September 2008 (see VMware HCL), passed all the Microsoft WHQL NIC & iSCSI Initiator certification in June 2008 (see Windows Server Catalog) and passed 10Gb iSCSI interoperability testing at the University of New Hampshire Interoperability Labs (UNH-IOL) in October 2007.

ServerEngines is a member of Blade.org, a collaborative organization and developer community focused on accelerating the development and adoption of blade server solutions.

The BEM3I10 10 Gb Ethernet & iSCSI I/O mezzanine expansion card and the BEA3X10 PCIe adapter are available now from ServerEngines. For more information, send an email to info@serverengines.com.
