New Controllers Monitors Toxic, Flammable Gases



A new controller that gives digital readouts of gas concentrations plus LED warnings of increasing danger levels has been developed by Sensor Electronics of Minneapolis.

The new controller works with sensors that monitor close to 100 toxic, flammable or explosive gases - such as chlorine, ammonia, carbon monoxide plus virtually all hydrocarbons.

This means the sensor/controller combo is particularly well suited for applications in semiconductor production. Petrochemical plants, wastewater-treatment facilities, refineries, pulp and paper mills, motorway tunnels, garages, LNG and LPG stations or wherever flammable or toxic gases can pose a real hazard.

Because of its exceptionally long working range, the sensor can be in an explosive or asphyxiating atmosphere while the controller is in a safe area 3000 feet away.

The controller works with a single sensor, or can be daisy-chained with any number of other sensor-controllers.

Color-coded LED's show low/medium/high alarm conditions; a fault signal reports problems with the controller, sensor or associated wiring.

The digital screen shows actual gas levels in PPM or percentage LEL ratios. If the readout reaches a preset danger level, integral relays can trigger alarm lights and sirens, and flash warnings to remote security offices.

Sized to fit DIN rail and panel mounts, controller dimensions are 3.5 x 4.2 x 2.3 inches; temperature,/humidity ranges are -40/160 degrees Fahrenheit, 0/99 per cent RH. The grey case easily wipes clean.
