Cogiscan's (MSD) Control System Updated To New IPC/JEDEC Standard

QUEBEC, CANADA - Cogiscan, Inc. announces its new Moisture Sensitive Device (MSD) Control System in response to the revised joint IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033A standard for control of moisture sensitive devices. This most recent revision includes many changes, such as a revised de-rating table to address extremely humid environments (upwards of 60%), as can be found in China and Mexico.

The MSD Control System provides real-time tracking of all moisture sensitive components, ensuring that all components are assembled within their specified floor life in order to prevent costly field failures. Whether components are in trays or on reels, the Cogiscan MSD Control System tracks the part number, moisture sensitivity level, expiration date/time, body thickness, category, and type. It also provides an automated method to ensure that all applicable rules from the joint IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033A standard are being followed, from the time components are removed from their protective dry bags until final reflow, thus eliminating the potential of human error.

The MSD Control System uses standard elements of the Cogiscan platform. Trays and reels containing MSDs are identified with re-usable RF tags. All relevant material and process information is programmed on the tags and updated on-the-fly as the material is moved from one location to another. Real-time information, including physical location and remaining floor life, is available from the Local Control Unit (LCU), which provides simple and clear instructions to the operator to avoid building boards with expired components.

The MSD Control System is also available with a barcode printer for MSD labels for re-sealed dry bags and a SMEMA control kit that prevents assembly line operation until the floor life of each component has been verified.
