Davron Continuous Conveyor Oven Features Multiple Zones of Control

Chattanooga, Tenn. — Davron Technologies, Inc. designed and manufactured an electrically heated continuous conveyor oven to cure adhesive on drum brake linings used in the automotive industry. Capable of curing 2,011 linings per hour, the DTI-226-100 continuous conveyor oven utilizes two individual zones of control in the curing chamber length. This feature gives the customer the ability to fine tune the curing process for different products. The multi-zone approach, as opposed to a single zone, gives the oven the capability to reduce the energy required for the curing process. The bulk of the curing occurs in the first zone so that less heat is required in the second zone.

Davron Curing Oven

Featuring two electric heaters the DTI-226-100 can be programmed to operate between 200ᴼ and 220ᴼF. Equipped with a Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR), the oven automatically adjusts voltage to maintain the desired temperature in each zone with minimal energy expenditure. The DTI-226-100 utilizes a curing and cooling chamber in-line. The cooling chamber uses high velocity air to cool the linings to approximately 130ᴼF. The cooling chamber features a cooling supply and cooling exhaust fan. The conveyor system utilizes a flat wire belt and a variable frequency drive (VFD) for speed adjustment. Airflow within the entire system follows a vertical top-down pattern.

The useable dimensions of the curing chamber are 5’6” wide x 1’0” high x 17’6” long. The interior of the oven is made out of 16-gauge aluminized steel backed by four inches of eight-pound density mineral wool insulation. The exterior is constructed of 16-gauge carbon steel backed by a structural steel frame and finished with high-temperature paint.

Davron designed the DTI-226-100 continuous conveyor oven based on two criteria provided by the customer: the production rate per hour and the estimated time for the curing cycle. Davron did extensive testing to determine the temperature profile needed to meet these requirements and used this information as the basis for the custom design of the DTI-226-100. At Davron’s recommendation, the customer incorporated multiple zones of independent control to achieve the desired process. Once the continuous conveyor oven was manufactured, Davron did acceptance testing and training with the customer at Davron headquarters in Chattanooga, TN prior to shipment.
