ACG Identification Technologies to Launch New Contactless Reader at CARTES

Fully ITSO compliant device meets special needs of Public Transport Industry

Walluf, October 31, 2006 - ACG Identification Technologies, a leading component and technology supplier in the smart card and RFID markets, launches a new contactless smart card reader at CARTES in Paris. The device is fully compliant with the Integrated Transport Smartcard Organisation (ITSO) specification. This will be obligatory for ITSO certification as of March 2007, when no more conditional certificates will be granted. The reader is tailor-made for the needs of the public transport industry and can be integrated as a Point of Service Terminal (POST) sub assembly into on-bus units, validators, fare gates, ticket vending machines or any other unattended sales kiosk. ACG will show the first functional prototypes at the ASSA ABLOY ITG booth 4H025. Market release is scheduled for the first quarter of 2007.

The contactless reader supports all types of ITSO defined card media and is able to read and write all other ISO 14443 A/B/Mifare and ISO 15693 transponders. Furthermore, the board can hold up to four SAMs in order to support multiple application and security schemes of different tag technologies. If required, the reader also drives one or two external antennas located up to a few metres from reader, multiplexing between the two.

In addition, the new device reduces transaction time and complexity for the host, since all media specific processes and most of the POST functionalities are handled inside the software on the reader. Due to its multiple external interfaces like USB, Ethernet connection or serial port, the contactless reader can be easily integrated into any kind of host system. Through the SPI port, the board also enables future expansion if required.
