Photovoltaic Connection System Expands

SOLARLOK Connectors from Tyco Electronics Add Capability, New Features

HARRISBURG, Pa - June 21, 2006 - Tyco Electronics has expanded its SOLARLOK photovoltaic (PV) connector system. The SOLARLOK PV connector system provides designers in the PV industry with a complete design solution for PV connection applications. The expansions to the SOLARLOK connector system include three new junction box configurations that accommodate different wiring needs. The number of rails determines how many electrical connections can be made in a junction box. Tyco Electronics has added a two-rail, three-rail and four-rail junction box to the product line. This expands upon the previous six-rail product. All SOLARLOK junction boxes are IP65 rated, and carry UL 1703 and TÜV approvals. Another major improvement to the SOLARLOK connector system is the addition of positive latching features. Positive latching, an increasingly desired and code-specified feature, helps minimize unintentional disconnections.

With the addition of the two, three and four-rail junction boxes, designers and installers of PV systems will have more flexibility in the products they specify and use in next-generation PV systems. Furthermore, the new junction boxes are a more cost-effective selection for a broader range of PV connection applications.

SOLARLOK connection systems are used to accommodate serial and parallel connection of PV arrays. In addition to junction boxes, the SOLARLOK connection system includes connectors that allow for speedy field installation or high-speed manufacture of made-to-length cable assemblies. Polarization features and sealing are also integral to the SOLARLOK connectors.

A two-rail SOLARLOK junction box is priced at $8.00 at the 500-piece quantity level. Deliveries are typically 8-10 weeks.
