New OptiGrid OEM Confocal Kit Simplifies Design Integration and Minimizes Optical Space Requirements for Machine Vision, Metrology and Inspection Systems.

Rochester, New York, USA • September 30, 2002 – Thales Optem announces the immediate availability of the OEM Confocal Kit for their OptiGrid Confocal Imaging System. The OptiGrid represents the first ever non-pointscanning confocal imaging system. OptiGrid’s new OEM Confocal Kit has been developed to provide machine vision, metrology, and inspection system OEMs with a turnkey solution for incorporating high-resolution confocal imaging into their designs.

Ideal for surface imaging, OptiGrid captures optical slices, which can be compiled and used for 3D reconstruction and non-contact Z-axis measurement. The OptiGrid OEM Confocal Kit is designed to integrate into existing coaxial illumination systems. Working in conjunction with a microprocessor, OptiGrid eliminates extraneous information resulting in crisp, enhanced-contrast composite images. OptiGrid enjoys light efficiency and imaging flexibility unparalleled by any other confocal technology at a fraction of the cost.

This patented non-pointscanning system requires no hot or costly lasers, no spinning disks, no light restrictive pin holes, and no approximating deconvolution software. It’s simplicity and ingenuity greatly reduces in-system space requirements and extraneous design considerations for OEM integrators. The OEM Confocal Kit contains:

• OptiGrid Grid Amplifier, Paddle and Projection Axis

• OptiGrid Software extension for ImagePro 4.X

• OptiGrid Owner’s Reference Manual

An operational OptiGrid system requires the OEM to supply only a frame grabber and compatible camera, D/A Card, and a PI-foc (Piezo objective drive) or Z-Stage drive.

Located in Rochester, New York, Thales Optem (formerly Optem) specializes in the design, development and manufacture of zoom optical systems, custom optical solutions, relay optics and image analysis instruments. Thales Optem’s optical systems meet the needs of customers in the machine vision, biomedical, metrology, life science, education, research, government intelligence, environmental management, semiconductor, and micro-electronic packaging markets.
