Artesyn Announces Highest Density Board-Level Conferencing Solution

Innovative audio mixing architecture of conferencing solution delivers unlimited scalability

MADISON, Wis., Jan. 31, 2002 - Artesyn Communication Products today introduced the highest density, board-level conferencing solution commercially available for media server applications. The new high-capacity solution is based on the MediaBlade 240 family of cPCI voice-over-packet media subsystems from Artesyn Communication Products and facilitates true N-Way toll quality conferencing.

Offering the highest density VoP conferencing platform on the market today, Artesyn's conferencing solution supports up to 240 conferees per board in any number of dynamic configurations and allows up to 20 active speaking participants in each voice conference.

The unique MediaBlade N-Way conferencing platform provides support for both IP and standard PSTN participants on the same call, as well as for each conference participant with a different CODEC. MediaBlade also delivers non-blocking and true N-way audio mixing conferencing, performs compression and decompression of voice, and packetization of compressed voice. CODEC support is assignable on a per port basis for G.711, G.723.1, and G.729a.

"MediaBlade is a simple architecture doing a very complex thing and doing it very well," said Todd Wynia, vice president of marketing, Artesyn Communication Products. "MediaBlade provides the highest density of voice ports commercially available in an IP-based conferencing cPCI board, as well as unlimited scalability, letting customers add conferencing ports as they need them."

Designed for voice conferencing and related applications, MediaBlade can be deployed in a self-contained cPCI system or distributed across a network. In providing support for non-blocking and independent mixing of all media ports, MediaBlade provides the building blocks to support wiretapping requirements of the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) and enables other applications such as standard conference calls, media stream mixing, voice-enabled chat rooms, sidebar conferencing and customer support monitoring.

Entirely IP-based, MediaBlade allows both control and signaling flow to be governed from the IP network. Unlike other industry boards that are CompactPCI based and require a separate CompactPCI software driver to enable board control, MediaBlade completely bypasses the CompactPCI bus. It achieves control solely over the Ethernet interface, thereby allowing complete operating system independence.

At its core, MediaBlade delivers a truly global conferencing solution using a standards-based distributed API. The MediaBlade API allows applications running on different computers to communicate over an IP backplane or across IP networks. The API shields applications from system-specific issues such as languages, operating systems, networking protocols and hardware.

The MediaBlade 2.0 N-Way conferencing platform is available now.
