February 2, 2006 - Two-component Grade RX offers pot life of 3½ hr at room temperature and set time of 6-8 hr without additional heat, while single-component Grade PX consists of heavy paste that must be cured for 30 min at 285-315°F. Both can be used as heat conductive compounds or electrically conductive adhesives. Products can be used to manufacture heat sinks, bond materials for minimum heat loss, or to fill holes and pits in metals. Both can be machined, threaded, drilled, sawed, and buffed.

Two New Epoxy-Based Graphite Compounds

Dylon Industries has developed two new epoxy-based graphite compounds know as Dylon Grade RX or Grade PX. Both products are blends of graphite and epoxy that combine to form high strength bonds.

Dylon Grade RX and PX can be used as heat conductive compounds, electrically conductive adhesives, to manufacture heat sinks, bond materials for minimum heat loss, or to fill holes and pits in metals before electroplating. Grade RX and PX can also be cast into intricate shapes or placed in grooves and sleeves and used as a permanent lubricant. They can be machined, threaded, drilled, sawed, or buffed to a high finish. Grade RX and PX also is used as a dry lubricant where high thermal and electrical conductivity are desired or needed. Their useful temperature is about 350°F.

Dylon Grade RX is a two-component system that has a useful pot life of about
31/2 (three and a half) hours at room temperature. Set time is about 6 - 8 hours without additional heat. 75% of ultimate strengths are achieved in three days. Maximum strengths can be immediately achieved by heating at 300°F for 2 hours. Grade RX is conveniently packaged in 1-quart cans, 1-gallon cans, and 5-gallon pails.

Dylon Grade PX is a convenient and easy to use single component heavy paste of graphite in a heat curing resin. No mixing with catalyst fillers or other chemicals is required. Dylon Grade PX must be cured for 30 minutes at temperatures between 285°F and 315°F. The most durable properties are normally produced by curing at the higher temperatures. After curing, the parts may be machined by any of the common finishing methods. Grade PX is conveniently packaged in 1-gallon and 5-gallon pails.
