Radiall Expands Composite Connector Line for Outdoor Telecom Applications

Featuring lightweight and corrosive free materials for better performance at a lower cost

Radiall expands its line of innovative N and 7/16 Composite Connector Series with over 20 new variations of plugs, jacks and receptacles as a lightweight, low cost alternative to brass connectors. Ideal for harsh outdoor telecom applications, these new connectors are manufactured with corrosion free, composite materials that are UV resistant and meet IEC 68-2-5 and IEC-68-2-9. In addition, since the introduction of this new composite technology two years ago, many leading-equipment manufacturers have found cost savings of up to 30 percent when using these types of connectors.

The unique single-piece design permits the contact pressure to be equally distributed by diverting the entire tightening torque force through pressure on the ground contact junction. This improves the intermodulation level, for example IMP3<-125dBm for 7/16 receptacles, and results in better stability than previous connector technology. Outstanding electrical performance includes a low operating VSWR, 1.10 max up to 7.5 GHz for 7/16 receptacles.

The selection of the composite materials is a result of an in-depth competitive analysis of creeping speeds of zinc and aluminum alloys. Not only do the composite materials offer considerable performance advantages guaranteeing up to 500 matings; but with more than a 50% reduction in weight, this receptacle reduces the overall weight of the final module as well as transportation costs.

Designed to be installed in telecommunications equipment such as remote radio heads, antennas, filters and more; the modular design of these N and 7/16 connectors offer multiple termination possibilities to fit many other applications using a standard composite outer housing.
