Compact Peripheral Modules serve motion control applications.
March 19, 2013 -
Simotion Terminal Module Compact (TMC) peripheral modules TMC1080 PN and TMC1180 PN enable connection of I/Os to motion control technology via high-speed Profinet IO with IRT. Width of 75 mm helps conserve space in control cabinet and 80 channels are available for specific DIO. Wiring can be done directly via front terminals for TMC1080 PN or offset via ribbon cable plug-in connectors for TMC1180 PN. Filter times are configurable, and 32 channels can be parameterized as DI/DO.

Siemens Presents Simotion Terminal Module Compact for Motion Control Applications
With Simotion Terminal Module Compact (TMC) the Siemens Drive Technologies Division introduces new modules suitable for high-performance motion control appli-cations with Simotion and Sinamics. The high-channel and compact peripheral modules TMC1080 PN and TMC1180 PN enable the connection of fast and precise I/Os to motion control technology via high-speed Profinet IO with Isochronous Real Time (IRT).
The compact peripheral modules TMC1080 PN and TMC1180 PN are available with a high channel density with 80 channels for specific digital inputs and outputs. As the modules have a width of 75 mm, space can be saved in the control cabinet. The digital inputs and outputs with low signal delays are combined in groups of 8 and the functionality of each I/O channel can be parameterized selectively. It is not only pos-sible to configure the Filter Times but also the 32 channels can be parameterized as DI/DO. This in turn helps to precisely tailor each channel according to the require-ments of a specific application.
Both modules differ in their connection method: The wiring can be done directly via the front terminals (TMC1080 PN) or offset via ribbon cable plug-in connectors (TMC1180 PN). The modules are connected as IO devices on the Profinet and can therefore be used in a distributed configuration. They can be very easily configured in Simotion Scout and are smooth to handle.
Just like all other Simotion products TMC is designed for industrial use in accord-ance with product standard DIN EN 61800-3, Category C2.
