Compact Drives reduce control room, panel space requirements.

Press Release Summary:

Rated from 125-450 hp, D-Frame VLT® Drives are available with IP20, IP21, or IP54 enclosure protection ratings and leverage back channel cooling to remove 90% of heat generated by drive. Design reduces space requirements for panel or wall mounting, while conformal coated PCBs, together with optional heat sink access panel, promote drive lifetime and reliability. Drives can be factory-fitted with optional semiconductor fuses as well as basic input options.

Optimize Energy Efficiency - While Reducing Control Room and Panel Space Requirements, and Cooling Costs - with New D-Frame VLT® Drives

Up to 68% smaller than previous generation drives, compact D-frame drives from Danfoss VLT Drives are optimized to deliver highly reliable performance in the 125 - 450 HP range while exhausting 90% of the drive-generated heat outside the enclosure via the backchannel

Loves Park, IL - Danfoss VLT Drives introduces next generation D-Frame VLT® Drives. Available in a power range from 125-450 HP (90-315kW) and up to 68% smaller than previous generation D-Frame drives, new D-Frame drives require significantly less panel or wall space than previous models which were already among the smallest in their class. This reduces installation costs and increases installation flexibility. These drives also leverage back channel cooling to remove 90% of the heat generated by the drive, reducing both up front and ongoing costs and making them an ideal panel building solution.

"With ever-increasing demands for improved efficiency and reliability in drive technology, OEMs, panel builders and end users are looking for new technologies that can save energy, reduce costs and help simplify operations in a solution that will provide trouble-free operation for years," Greg Reichelt, Product Manager High Power Drives, North America. "The new D-Frame VLT® drives deliver on each count. Not only are these drives among the smallest in their class, they also include an array of efficiency and safety enhancing options as standard features, enabling customers and end users to reduce both initial and ongoing operating costs."

The new drives are available with IP20, IP21 (NEMA 1) or IP 54 (NEMA 12) enclosure protection ratings. For robust protection they also come standard with conformal coated printed circuit boards, which together with the optional heat sink access panel, help to extend drive lifetime and reliability. The new units can be factory-fitted with optional semiconductor fuses to further reduce installation costs. Additional factory-fitted basic input options such as mains disconnect, contactor and circuit breaker, eliminate the need to install these basic options externally.

New D-Frame drives also use Danfoss' unique and innovative back-channel cooling concept to keep electronics safely within optimal operation temperatures. The big advantage of back-channel cooling is that system installation and operating costs can be dramatically reduced.

"Using a ducted back-channel, air is allowed to pass over the unit's heat sink with minimal air passing through the electronics area. This way 90% of the heat generated by the drive is exhausted directly outside of the enclosure, improving reliability and prolonging the lifetime of the unit. An IP54 (NEMA 12) seal between the back- channel cooling duct and the electronics area of the VLT® drive helps to significantly reduce temperature rise and contamination of the electronic components," explains Reichelt.
