Inter-Tel Releases New Inter-Tel® 5000 Version 2.1 Software

Enhancements Include Expanded Unified Messaging and Analog Station Capacities

TEMPE, Ariz., Nov. 15 -- Inter-Tel (Delaware), Incorporated (NASDAQ:INTL), a leading provider of voice and data communications solutions for businesses, has announced the release of its latest software for its family of IP-based Inter-Tel 5000 communications servers. The Inter-Tel 5000 Version 2.1 upgrade delivers new software features, including expanded unified messaging capacities, as well as support for a new single-line module that expands a customer's existing single-line capacity in 8-port increments, to small and mid-size businesses.

"The flexibility provided by this latest software is yet another reason IP-based communications systems are quickly becoming the standard for small and medium-size businesses," said Craig W. Rauchle, president and chief operating officer for Inter-Tel. "Inter-Tel 5000 Version 2.1 was designed to give Inter-Tel 5000 customers more options to boost the capacity of their existing system and expand their communications capabilities with new applications as their business grows."

Inter-Tel 5000 Version 2.1 software expands the number of simultaneous calls to the embedded basic unified messaging application from eight calls in version 2.0 software to 16 calls. Inter-Tel 5600 customers can now choose between the embedded option and the advanced Inter-Tel Enterprise(R) Messaging platform. To support the higher capacity needs of larger customers, the Inter-Tel 5600 is also capable of increasing the basic voice mail (BVM) ports to 16 per server. The BVM functionality supports basic unified messaging capabilities on all 16 ports.

The release also supports a new single-line module that provides customers with the ability to expand single-line capacity in 8-port increments. The module can be installed in any available bay on a Digital Expansion Interface and mixed with Digital Endpoint Modules to achieve the desired amount of digital and analog stations, delivering up to 48 single-line stations on any Inter-Tel 5000 series communications server. Additional features and enhancements with Version 2.1 include a new hybrid balance tool for tuning audio levels on analog trunks.

"Flexibility has always been important to our customers," noted Jeff Ford, Inter-Tel's chief technology officer. "This release gives them choices so they are free to deploy technology where it makes sense. The range of options delivered in the Inter-Tel 5000 family is one of the many reasons it has been so well received by our customers. This new release of hardware and software is just another example of how we are striving to make IP-based platforms effective for today's business communications."
