May 24, 2006 - Enabling extension and regeneration of I/O signals, NETio(TM) I/O and wireless communication products consolidate I/O with MDS radio. Utilizing single wireless link, they carry payload data from serial and IP devices with analog and discrete signals. They also support direct protocol addressability of connected I/O from MODBUS RTU, DF1, MODBUS TCP, DNP3, or EtherNet/IP protocols. Wireless expansion modules can be up to 1,000 ft away, and communicate with base unit by WeXP(TM).

MDS NETio(TM) Enables I/O Communications, Consolidation and Cost Savings; Can be Added to Existing Wireless Infrastructure

ENTELEC 2006 CONFERENCE & EXPO, HOUSTON (April 19, 2006) - Microwave Data Systems (MDS), a world leader in industrial, wireless, networking solutions with applications in the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), automation, telecommunications, public safety, and online transactional markets, today introduced a new integrated, scalable, family of I/O and wireless communications products.

MDS NETio(TM) enables the extension and regeneration of I/O signals while reducing complexity, wiring, and termination costs. Integration complexity is significantly reduced, because the NETio consolidates I/O with an MDS radio.

Utilizing a single wireless link, MDS NETio carries payload data from serial and IP devices along with the analog and discrete signals. It also supports direct protocol addressability of connected I/O from a library of industrial protocols, including MODBUS RTU, DF1, MODBUS TCP, DNP3 or EtherNet/IP.

Optional wired and wireless expansion modules are available as well, enabling network customization based on specific I/O counts. NETio wireless expansion modules can be as far as 1,000 feet away, communicating with the base unit by means of MDS WeXP(TM), a short-range wireless capability based upon IEEE 802.15.4.

"The most significant benefits our customers can recognize are the cost savings and efficiencies NETio enables," noted MDS Business Development Manager Mike Malone. "This is a flexible, cost-effective solution that provides deployment alternatives that are scalable to your I/O count, distance and location requirements."
