ADAPTIX Announces Pricing and Availability of New Mobile WiMAX Base Stations and Mobile Terminals

Pioneer of OFDMA technology delivers macro-cell performance at a micro-cell price with innovative BX-3000 and SX series of 802.16e products

DALLAS, Oct. 10 -- ADAPTIX, recognized in the networking industry as one of the earliest developers of OFDMA-based mobile wireless systems, has announced pricing and availability for its line of high-performance compact mobile base stations and mobile terminals. Both the BX-3000 family of base stations and SX-300 mobile terminal cost-effectively address the challenge of providing multi-megabit mobile and fixed wireless connections that will meet the needs of a demanding subscriber base.

The BX-3000 series of Mobile Base Stations will be available at volume street pricing starting at $19,995 for a single-sector configuration. A high performance three-sector base station configuration is also available at volume street pricing starting at $39,995. Additional options include hardware redundancy, intermediate and long reach fiber optics and a variety of indoor and outdoor RF unit options with different power and antenna configurations. These options enable network flexibility to address business-case critical- mass deployment issues such as scaling cell site areas appropriately to ensure multi-megabit coverage and improved connection reliability.

"With our third-generation OFDMA system, ADAPTIX technology and products are enabling high-performance, yet cost-effective, Mobile WiMAX for mass deployment," said ADAPTIX's Vice President of Marketing and Product Management Byron Young. "Our BX-3000 Mobile Base Station family sets a new standard for cost-effective all-IP wide area wireless broadband by offering a superior 4G Mobile WiMAX solution over older and less capable 3G and non-mobile 802.16d solutions."

"The continued release of effective mobile broadband products from companies like ADAPTIX is helping to further the growth of the market and bolster demand from an increasingly eager subscriber base," said Monica Paolini, founder and principal analyst of Senza Fili Consulting. "We expect the growth of the mobile broadband segment to be impressive over the next few years."

The BX-3000 features a highly flexible "virtual base station" architecture that combines industry-leading wide area wireless performance with superior application flexibility. Built on the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard, the BX-3000 design incorporates ADAPTIX software defined radio (SDR) technology, providing a complete OFDMA solution that can be easily upgraded, if required, to accommodate future standards and services. The BX-3000 baseband unit acts as a central "hub" for multiple remote RF units, all connected via high-speed fiber optic cabling. This virtual base station architecture offers interference- resistant operation with optimal RF performance, maximal deployment flexibility and minimal installation cost. In fact, the BX-3000 was designed to minimize installation and maintenance overhead, reducing operations costs in deploying 4G infrastructure for new revenue-producing services.

The BX-3000 platform is fully programmable, and its hardware-accelerated design makes it possible to achieve peak performance while supporting 802.16e- defined quality of service (QoS) for lucrative new services such as voice over IP (VoIP) over WiMAX, and mobile IPTV. Advanced functionality, such as support for redundant Ethernet backhaul, dynamic IP routing with transparent Layer 3 mobility and integrated security, including over-the-air encryption, is fully supported.

ADAPTIX also announced pricing and availability of its third-generation compact mobile terminal, the SX-300. Supporting full 802.16e functionality, the SX-300 provides approximately 4 Mbps of aggregate airlink performance and will be available at volume street pricing starting at $349 in either 2.3 or 2.5 GHz profiles.

Both the BX-3000 and SX-300 recently underwent rigorous interoperability testing as part of September's WiMAX Forum Plugfest dedicated to Mobile WiMAX. The testing focused on interoperability between vendors across PHY, MAC and Network (IP) protocol layers and featured real world user applications such as streaming IP video.

ADAPTIX's new base station and mobile terminal products are scheduled for initial deployment with select broadband wireless service providers later this quarter, with general availability planned for February, 2007.
