New Full-Color Digital Label Printer; Instantly Prints Graphic Product Labels at Production Speeds
A new high-speed color label printer has been introduced by the QuickLabel Systems Product Group of Astro-Med Inc., West Warwick, RI. The QLS-4100 Xe has faster processing speed than any tabletop color label printer in the world, according to the company. The QLS-4100 Xe represents the latest generation of color label printers produced by QuickLabel Systems. With 200% faster on-board processing, 800% more on-board memory, and new Ethernet connectivity to address color label printers, the QLS-4100 Xe printer extends the production capacity of its predecessor, the QLS-4100 X printer, released in January, 2002.

The QLS-4100 Xe rapidly processes and prints graphic-rich labels, with or without variable information, all in full color. Totally different product labels can print without pausing, at the speed and quality necessary to match production demands. Printing and processing speed remains high whether variable label content is directly linked from databases or simply requires serialization, as in the case of date codes and barcodes. The QLS-4100 Xe is powered by a high-end embedded microcontroller that combines multiple processing units to speed communications and printing.
In addition to ample on-board storage for fonts and images, the new printer also provides expanded space to store additional images and fonts on removable memory cards. The QLS-4100 Xe printer extends communication options, allowing users of its native label creation software package, Color QuickLabel 99 Proâ„¢, to address networked printers via Ethernet.
The QLS-4100 Xe shares the 300 dpi print resolution of its predecessor, as well as the ability to print directly onto labels, tags, and other flexible packaging such as Tyvek® and metallized PET pouches in four spot or CMYK process colors at a speed of 7 inches per second.
