Sherwin-Williams Introduces Three Fast Clad Coatings for Rapid-Return-to-Service Bridge Painting

Fast Clad products belong to new ExpressTech line of coatings
engineered for improved productivity

(CLEVELAND - October 11, 2002) Sherwin-Williams is introducing an important new series of Fast Clad coatings for in-shop and on-site bridge painting applications, featuring advanced coating
technologies that result in groundbreaking productivity improvements for applicators. The three Fast Clad coatings, Fast Cladâ„¢ Urethane, Fast Cladâ„¢ FD Epoxy, and Fast Cladâ„¢ Zinc, are members of the new Sherwin-Williams ExpressTech family of coatings engineered for improved productivity.

Fast Clad Urethane, when applied over recommended zinc-rich primers, allows painters to shut a lane down at 6 p.m., abrasive-blast the existing substrate, apply the zinc-rich primer, and only one hour later apply one coat of Fast Clad Urethane. New technology allows the product to dry in time for tear down and lane re-opening by 6 a.m., so a segment can be completed in a 12-hour shift.

A key feature of the single-coat topcoat is its 30-minute dry time. Because Fast Clad Urethane dries so quickly, spent abrasive and other airborne dirt and grit will not stick to the paint film and causes rust stains or surface imperfections.

Fast Clad FD Epoxy is an economical, two-component, fast dry, fast recoat polyamide epoxy that will shorten dry-to-handle times and increase productivity in shop applications, meaning lower labor and energy costs, lower utility usage and ultimately faster through-put. Fast Clad FD Epoxy can be applied as a high-build coating (up to 6-8 mils DFT in a single application) to marginally prepared surfaces. It is VOC-compliant at 340 g/L.

Fast Clad Zinc promises to apply better and perforn better than any other reinforced zinc primer on the market. It is a very fast dry primer that can be recoated in two to three hours, making it ideal for shop and field applications. The reinforced film offers durable performance and excellent resistance to
topcoat bubbling, dry spray and mudcracking. Fast Clad Zinc features excellent application properties and pre-wetted zinc dust for easy incorporation during mixing. It may be used in immersion service with recommended topcoats and has excellent touch-up and repair properties.

Sherwin-Williams ExpressTech coatings are value-engineered to make rapid return to service and improved productivity a reality.
