June 3, 2004 - Modicon® Momentum(TM) programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are available with conformal coating that enable them to withstand corrosive and high-humidity environments. Coating acts as barrier against fungus, dust, humidity, salt mist, temperature, mixed flowing gas, and ISA. With coating, PLCs can be placed in NEMA 1 or 2 enclosures instead of those rated NEMA 4 or 4X. Snap-together controllers are suited for small to mid-range applications.

Schneider Electric Offers Conformal Coating on Select PLCs

New coating protects controllers against harsh conditions

PALATINE, Ill. - May 26, 2004 - Modicon® Momentum(TM) programmable logic controllers, part of the complete Telemecanique® family of automation and control solutions from Schneider Electric, are now available with conformal coating, allowing controllers to withstand corrosive and high humidity environments better than standard equipment. Conformal coating acts as a barrier against moisture, fungus, dust and other environmental contaminants, especially those particular to the water/wastewater and oil and gas industries. As a result, coated products have a longer lifespan and do not require expensive enclosures to house and protect them.

Instead of being placed in NEMA 4 or 4X enclosures, in some cases Momentum controllers with conformal coating may be installed in less expensive NEMA 1 or 2 enclosures.

Conformal coating makes Momentum a good fit for a variety of applications. The control modules are protected against seven key environmental conditions: humidity, salt mist, fungus resistance, temperature resistance, dust, mixed flowing gas and ISA.

The Modicon Momentum controller is a complete family of components that easily snap together in various combinations and can be configured for a wide variety of applications. The controller's small footprint makes it ideal for small to mid-range applications. The competitively-priced Momentum modules with conformal coating can be purchased without special ordering.

Modicon controllers are recognized as some of the world's most rugged PLCs, able to withstand the harshest environments, and many are available with conformal coating.
