Isilon Joins with Cisco, ColdWatt, Intel, Mellanox Technologies, Riverbed and VMware in Helping to Enable Next-Generation Data Center

SEATTLE, Jan. 28 /-- Isilon(R) Systems (NASDAQ:ISLN), the leader in clustered storage, today announced the release of its new IQ clustered storage systems, the X-Series, delivering unprecedented levels of performance, scalability and value required to power the next-generation, virtualized data center. Isilon's X-Series clustered storage systems deliver the industry's first and only storage system to scale to greater than 1.6 Petabytes of capacity and provide performance of 10 Gigabytes per second in a single file system and single volume - achieving 100X the scalability and 20X the performance of traditional SAN and NAS storage systems. Isilon today announced that more than 60 customers, including Arcis Corporation, Austin Radiological Association, Kodak Gallery, and PetroChina have already adopted Isilon's X-Series to gain instant access to critical business information while dramatically reducing the cost and complexity of managing storage growth.

Isilon also today announced it is working with Cisco, ColdWatt, Intel, Mellanox Technologies, Riverbed and VMware to ensure interoperability with its X-Series clustered storage systems. Interoperability between these leading solutions will help enable enterprise businesses to deploy end-to-end, next- generation, virtualized data centers.

"The enterprise data center is in the midst of a major transformation, fueled by the wide-spread deployment of high-speed networking and high- performance virtualized computing," said Sujal Patel, CEO, Isilon Systems. "The Isilon X-Series serves as an essential component of the next-generation data center, enabling enterprises to unlock the storage bottleneck and speed the entire data center value chain to achieve unprecedented levels of innovation and business agility."

"In the ever-intensifying and expanding search to discover new, extractable sources of oil and gas, Arcis' business relies heavily on next- generation computing, networking and storage technologies to produce extremely fast and accurate seismic information and analysis," said Rob Howey, Senior Vice President, Arcis Corporation. "We are using Isilon's X-series clustered storage systems to meet the extreme concurrent data performance requirements of our 850-node clustered computing system and have achieved a tremendous increase in the delivery of seismic data and services to our customers."

"Our research is showing an increased user interest in clustered storage in scale-out architectures as enterprises look to address storage infrastructure complexity, cost and performance issues," said Pushan Rinnen, Research Director, Gartner. "As unstructured data continues to grow faster than structured data, clustered storage solutions should be in the shortlist for consideration to ensure maximum return on investment."

As part of the new X-Series, Isilon selected the Intel(R) Xeon(R) 5130 Processor series to provide the energy efficiency and high performance necessary to help achieve 20X the data performance of traditional SAN and NAS storage systems.

"Clustered storage has quickly emerged as a key architecture to meet the requirements of the next-generation data center," said Seth Bobroff, General Manager Storage, Intel(R) Server Platform Group. "Utilizing Intel's Xeon 5130 Processor in its X-Series clustered storage systems enabled Isilon to dramatically increase the performance and power efficiency of its systems, providing customers with a powerful solution to support an end-to-end, virtualized data center."

Isilon's X-Series clustered storage systems serve as a critical component of the next-generation data center, providing enterprise businesses with unprecedented storage scalability and performance while dramatically reducing the cost and complexity of managing storage growth. Isilon's X-Series provides the following key benefits:

-- Unprecedented Scalability - Leveraging Isilon's OneFS(R) operating system software, Isilon's X-Series clustered storage systems deliver modular, "pay as you grow" scaling of capacity up to 1.6 Petabytes in a single file system and single volume - achieving 100X the scalability of traditional SAN and NAS storage systems - and create a single, shared pool of virtualized storage to meet the requirements for the next-generation, virtualized data center.
-- High Performance - Isilon's X-Series delivers up to 10 Gigabytes per second of performance in a single file system and single volume, achieving 20X the performance of traditional SAN and NAS storage systems. With the release of the X-Series, Isilon has increased performance for data write and random access by up to 60 percent over its previous systems. Leveraging Isilon's OneFS operating system software combined with new, high-performance hardware which utilizes the latest generation of Intel architecture, Isilon's X-Series provides enterprises with instant and unfettered access to large and rapidly growing stores of unstructured and file-based data currently proliferating through the next-generation data center.
-- Unmatched Value - Leveraging the power consumption efficiencies gained with the next-generation hardware advancements from Intel and ColdWatt, Isilon's X-Series achieves 20 percent greater power efficiency over the previous architecture, delivering critical environmental and total cost of ownership savings to enterprise businesses. As with previous Isilon IQ clustered storage products, Isilon's X-Series delivers a single point of management for a shared pool of storage, providing unprecedented simplicity in configuring, managing and provisioning storage resources in the next-generation, virtualized data center.

Powered by OneFS, Isilon IQ X Series delivers the industry's first single file system that unifies and provides instant and ubiquitous access to the rapidly growing stores of digital content, eliminating the cost and complexity barriers of traditional storage architectures. OneFS is a unified operating system software layer that powers all of Isilon's award-winning IQ family of clustered storage systems including the Isilon IQ 200, 1920, 3000, 6000, 9000, 12000, Accelerator, and EX 6000, 9000 and 12000. Isilon also provides a robust suite of software applications including SnapshotIQ(R), SmartConnect(TM), MigrationIQ(TM), SmartQuotas, and SyncIQ(R) that leverage OneFS and clustered storage, providing the highest levels of data protection and automated data management.
