ActiveVideo Networks Optimizes CloudTV Platform to Align with Cable Operators' IP Migration Strategies

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- ActiveVideo Networks(TM) creators of CloudTV(TM), the advanced TV software platform for rendering the TV user experience entirely in the cloud, will preview a new version of the platform that is designed to align with cable system operators' IP migration strategies at The Cable Show in Boston beginning today.

In its booth (#1255) at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, ActiveVideo will unveil its CloudTV H5 IP(TM) product that optimizes the delivery of cloud-based content in an IP environment. Leveraging ActiveVideo's experience with managed and unmanaged networks, CloudTV H5 IP adds important features such as virtualization, full H.264 support and comprehensive bandwidth management to its CloudTV HTML5 rendering platform to provide a highly-flexible, highly-scalable platform capable of delivering a rich user experience with low latency to any connected device. Integrating easily with other cloud-based cable initiatives such as network DVR and cloud-based guides, the CloudTV H5 IP platform is an important part of the emerging IP ecosystem.

"As cable operators adopt IP infrastructure to deliver their new navigation and DVR products, the CloudTV platform provides an important tool for transitioning from their existing set top box population while also supporting the next generation of cost-reduced boxes," said Jeff Miller, president and CEO of ActiveVideo Networks. "CloudTV H5 IP is part of a product roadmap that continues the ActiveVideo commitment to creating enterprise-class platforms that reduce cost while bringing full TV experiences to any device."

Like its QAM counterparts, CloudTV H5 IP utilizes highly-optimized HTML5 browser technology running in remote servers to execute and render complete user experiences in the cloud. The fully-formed user experience is then streamed to the user's device in a bandwidth-efficient adaptive bit rate video stream. Subscribers control the experience by using their remote controls to send key presses to the remote browser, controlling the application in the same way as they would if it were running locally. Surprisingly, the latency between a customer key press and the UI response is minimal.

This innovative, patented technology makes it possible to create and deliver pixel-accurate applications and user experiences across any digital set top box or connected device. In-home device capabilities are irrelevant to the application designer because the application is fully executed and rendered on the cloud-based server, making it possible to create complex animations and functionality without worrying about device capability. CloudTV H5 IP can render and stream to thousands of users from a single cloud-based server.

Designed to interface seamlessly with existing cable operator network infrastructure, the "total cloud" approach can be completely deployed at low cost without changing or adding a single device in the home, thus achieving unparalleled service velocity. As television operators move more and more to a unicast distribution network, they can take advantage of the CloudTV platform to drive personalized, on-demand video to every customer. CloudTV is available on approximately 10 million screens in the United States and abroad with Cablevision Systems, Oceanic Time Warner Cable and other operators, as well as on Philips-brand NetTVs.
