Closed-Loop Stepping Motors are rated for continuous duty.April 6, 2009 -
Featuring stator and rotor assembly techniques that minimize power loss in motor, AR Series utilizes AlphaStep closed loop control technology, rotor position sensor, and alarm signal to maintain positioning capability. Drivers accept AC/DC voltage input and come in 1.65, 2.36, and 3.35 in.² motor frame sizes, all available with standard shaft, 3 types of gearheads with various gear ratios, and/or electromagnetic brake. Depending on model, output torque ranges from 42 lb-in. to 530 lb-in.

Continuous Duty Stepping Motor Systems
High efficiency AR Series motor design reduces motor temperature rise
Torrance, CA - April 3, 2009 - ORIENTAL MOTOR USA CORP. announces the release of the AR Series of closed loop stepping motor and driver packages that can be driven at continuous duty cycles. Through the use of new stator and rotor assembly techniques, power loss in the motor is significantly reduced leading to the motor achieving higher efficiency. Key benefits of the higher efficiency are lower heat generation (33%) by the motor, constant duty cycle operation is possible, up to 40% less power consumption, low vibration and improved step angle accuracy compared to previous products from Oriental Motor.
The AR Series also utilizes Oriental Motors' AlphaStep closed loop control technology to maintain positioning capability even during abrupt load changes or short acceleration or deceleration profiles. A built-in rotor position sensor monitors the motor's rotation and, when a potential overload condition is detected, the AR Series will instantaneously switch to closed loop control to maintain the correct positioning operation. When an overload condition persists that can not be overcome, the AR Series will output an alarm signal, providing the reliability that is expected from closed loop systems without the need for gain tuning or any position hunting when the motor is at rest.
The AR Series offers drivers that accept either AC or DC voltage input with motor frame sizes of 1.65" sq., 2.36" sq. and 3.35" sq. All of the motor frame sizes are available with either a standard shaft, three types of gearheads with many gear ratios and/or with an electromagnetic brake. Output torque from the different models ranges from 42 oz-in for the 1.65" sq. standard shaft motors up to 530 lb-in for a 3.54" sq. geared motor. Shaft speeds of up to 4000 rpm can be achieved on some models.
Oriental Motor is a world leader in the manufacturing of sub-fractional horsepower AC induction and reversible motors, 2 and 5-phase stepping motor, driver and controller systems, AC and DC speed control motor systems, electric linear and rotary actuators, and cooling fans. More than 1500 of our over 10,000 standard products are available for same day delivery to our users in many diverse industries.
