IRC Offers Robust, High Voltage Chip Resistors for Voltages up to 3KV

Chip resistor construction, specifications ideal for medical, military, power supply
applications...

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (June 18, 2008) - Providing design engineers with a robust device ideal for a variety of high voltage, harsh environment applications, TT electronics IRC now offers a thick film chip resistor with resistance values to 100 MOhms. Designated the HVC Series, the resistors are rectangular and feature high voltage operation in standard 1206, 2010 and 2512 package sizes, making them well suited for automatic handling methods.

"Along with the robust thick film construction, the wrap-around terminations have an electroplated nickel barrier and either tin/lead or RoHS compliant matte tin finish, ensuring excellent leach resistance properties and solderability," said Gary Bleasdell, thick film business unit director for IRC. "The overall construction allows the chip resistor to operate in harsh, high voltage environments, including those in medical and military applications.

The robust construction and electrical specifications make the HVC Series chip resistors ideal for medical devices (defibrillators), high voltage power supplies (photomultiplier tube amplifiers), and military equipment (night vision cameras, x-ray equipment).

The HVC Series resistors feature a resistance range of 100KOhms to 1MOhms, with tolerances to 0.5%, 1%, 2%, and 5%. Continuous voltage ratings are up to 3KV, with maximum overload voltage to 4.5KV. Power ratings for the 1206, 2010 and 2512 resistors are 0.3W, 0.5W and 1W, respectively, with rated voltages of 1000V, 2000V and 3000V. The HVC series also offer low Voltage Coefficient (VCR) of <-25ppm and low Temperature Coefficient (TCR) of ±100ppm/°C, with an operating temperature range of -55C to +155°C. IRC will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.

Typical pricing for the HVC Series resistors is approximately $0.50 in minimum order
quantities of 10,000 pieces. Lead time is from stock to 8 to 9 weeks.
