Hamamatsu Corporation Introduces CCDs with Wide Dynamic Range, Low Dark Current and Low Readout Noise

-S9736 Series Detects Extremely Low Light Levels in Variety of Scientific Applications, Including Fluorescence Spectrometers and Raman Spectrophotometers-

Bridgewater, NJ (For Immediate Release) - Hamamatsu Corporation introduces the S9736 series of FFT-CCDs (Full Frame Transfer-Charge Coupled Devices) that can detect very low levels of light. Featuring a wide dynamic range, low dark current, and low readout noise, the S9736 series has been developed for use in scientific measuring instruments, fluorescence spectrometers, Raman spectrophotometers, and optical and spectrophotometric analyzers.

The S9736 series utilizes an MPP mode of operation to achieve a dark current of typically 10 e-/pixel/s at 0° C. Complementing the low dark current is the image sensors' typical readout noise of only 4 e-rms. The result is very low light level detection and long integration time, thereby creating a wide dynamic range of typically 75,000. Covering a spectral response range of 400 nm to 1100 nm, the S9736 series achieves Quantum Efficiency (QE) of 39% at 660 nm.

Featuring a 512x512 pixel format with a pixel size of 24x24 mm, the S9736 series achieves a 100% fill factor. The area image sensors have an active area of 12.288x12.288 mm. A four-stage TE-cooled element is built into the S9736 housing so that the sensors can be cooled down to -70° C using forced air cooling. Both the CCD chip and TE-cooled element are hermetically sealed, eliminating the need for dry air and making the image sensors much easier to handle.

The S9736 series is available in three different packages - 24-pin ceramic DIP (S9736-01), 28-pin metal (S9736-02), or plate (S9736-03). The S9736-02 features an AR coated sapphire window.

Small quantity pricing of the S9736 series is $2,304.00 for the S9736-01, $6,682.00 for the S9736-02, and $1,728.00 for the S9736-03. Delivery is 8 to 10 weeks ARO.
