Calgon Carbon Corporation Announces Zorflex(TM) Brand for Activated Charcoal Cloth

Pittsburgh, PA. September 26, 2003 -- Zorflex(TM) has been announced as the brand name for activated charcoal cloth, the advanced textile used in medical, industrial, conservation and military applications by world market leader Charcoal Cloth International, a subsidiary of Calgon Carbon Corporation.

Zorflex(TM) derives its name from the adsorption and flexibility of activated charcoal cloth, a true textile incorporated into a range of products used in filtering contaminants and odors. Products utilizing Zorflex(TM) include nuisance vapor masks, dressings for malodorous wounds, anti-tarnish linings for museum display cases, as well as nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) protection wear.

Just 1g of Zorflex(TM) has a microporous internal surface area of up to 1400 square meters, so that the product combines light weight and compact size with extremely high adsorption capabilities.

Isaac Post, recently appointed Calgon Carbon sales manager for Zorflex(TM), commented, "Zorflex(TM) provides a hallmark of quality that customers can trust. Although Calgon Carbon's subsidiary, Charcoal Cloth International, is already market leader in activated charcoal cloth, our products are often incorporated into other finished products. We therefore need to position Zorflex(TM) in our markets in a similar way to the 'Intel Inside' brand employed successfully in the personal computer market."

Zorflex(TM) has higher filtration efficiency and speed of adsorption than granular activated carbon, making it well suited to filtration applications demanding particularly high efficiency. Being 100% pure activated charcoal, the adsorbency performance of Zorflex(TM) is also superior to the equivalent weight of charcoal-loaded papers, non-wovens and foams, due to the latter's lower carbon content.

Calgon Carbon aims to build on its existing strengths by achieving greater penetration of its markets and a key part of this strategy will be developing new applications to harness the capabilities of Zorflex(TM), as well as continuous research and development to support this process.
