Illuminated, Submersible Microcamera Withstands Corrosive Liquids; Adapts to Range of Inspection, Monitoring Applications

Columbia, NJ (October 1, 2002)-Submersible to 100', the new iShot Imaging AquArray(TM) captures color inspection footage from wet and immersed areas, including pipes, vessels and marine environments. Integral LED lamps cast shadowless, variable-intensity illumination, while interchangeable lenses ensure a detailed view of subjects both near and far. AquArray's(TM) rugged design assures reliable performance, even in saltwater and other corrosive liquids.

AquArray(TM) is offered in two package configurations: cable reel and push pole. In cable reel configuration, AquArray(TM) comes attached to a 100' flexible tether, which itself is wound on a convenient cable reel. In push pole configuration, it comes attached to a 100' push pole designed to snake through bending pipes. Both configurations allow quick, easy camera pay-out and retraction. Moreover, because the head and operator console are detachable, a user can enjoy the capabilities of both configurations for a price only incrementally higher than either single one.

"This robust camera will surprise inspection professionals, most of whom simply don't expect performance and versatility at such a modest price," said Bill Habermann, President of InterTest, the company that designs and builds iShot Imaging products. In push pole configuration, AquArray(TM) replaces pipe and sewer inspection systems many times more expensive. In cable reel configuration, it can be carried freely by a diver; mounted to a dive helmet or submersible equipment; or simply lowered into a shaft or cavity. To date, AquArray(TM) has been installed in Coast Guard search-and-rescue helicopters, and is used by Navy divers to inspect ship hulls and propellers.

A stainless steel shell, sapphire window and robust seals earn AquArray(TM) a 100' submersion rating, and also protect it against corrosion and chemical attack. Yet despite this ruggedness, AquArray(TM) measures just 1" in dia. and weighs a mere 6.4 oz.

AquArray's(TM) 1/4" interline transfer CCD captures crisp color video at 330 HTVL resolution. Measuring 512 x 492 pixels, this sensor maintains a minimum sensitivity of 5 lux at F1.6 and adapts instantly to changing lighting conditions with auto-shutter circuitry. Selectable white balance settings assure optimum performance under natural and artificial light. AquArray's(TM) composite video output can be viewed or recorded using standard video equipment.

The 2.2 mm focusable lens supplied with AquArray(TM) yields an effective focal range of 2" to infinity and a diagonal field of view of 103 deg. Optional 4, 8, and 15 mm lenses swap out quickly for viewing smaller targets at greater distances.

An array of white LEDs encircles AquArray's(TM) lens, ensuring shadowless illumination. On the operator console, a dimmer knob varies illumination intensity to a maximum of 7.28 candelas. Compared to similarly rated incandescent and halogen lamps, the LEDs occupy less space, generate less heat, demand less power, and last longer, with an average life of 15,000 hr.

"Because different applications place unique demands on any inspection camera, InterTest is committed to packaging and accessorizing the AquArray(TM) to meet specific customer needs," added Tom Daly, Vice President of Sales at InterTest. In addition to the cable reel and push pole configurations, InterTest offers an array of accessories, including retrieval tools, video monitors and recorders, auxiliary lamps, rigid push poles, mounting fixtures, image analysis software and a transit case.

AquArray(TM) joins the growing family of iShot Imaging visual inspection tools designed and manufactured by InterTest. These products include modular video inspection systems, robotic camera tools, video inspection probes, handheld camera tools, microcamera accessories and retrieval tools.
