August 6, 2010 - Suited for multi-pallet machining systems, OSI with OMM-2 optical interface supports up to 3 machine-tool probe systems for automated part set-up, measurement, and tool setting. Unit combines with 1 or more OTS tool setters and 1 or more OMP40, OMP400, or OMP60 inspection probes, and only one OSI receiver is needed to process signals from probes that operate in modulated mode. Combined in tandem, OMM-2 interface units suit machines with long spindle movements and with partitioned work zones.

New Optical Interface Supports up to Three Machine-Tool Probe Systems for Part Set-up, Measurement, and Tool Setting

Single optical receiver enables fast integration on machining centers, especially those with multiple pallets or rotary tables.

Renishaw introduces a new cable-free optical transmission interface capable of supporting up to three machine-tool probes for automated set-up and measurement or tool setting. Ideal for multi-pallet machining systems, the OSI with OMM-2 optical interface would typically be combined with one or more OTS tool setters and one or more OMP40, OMP400 or OMP60 inspection probes. Only one OSI receiver is needed to process signals from any of these Renishaw probes that operates in "modulated" mode. OMM-2 interface units can be combined in tandem for an ideal solution on machines with exceptionally long spindle movements, where increased transmission range is required. The tandem setup also provides a solution for machines with partitioned work zones.

Optical signal transmission enables fast system integration and a cable-free machine environment, eliminating restrictions on table and pallet movement. Modulated optical transmission offers the highest level of resistance to light interference.
