Precimat CNC Provides Creepfeed & Flat Surface Grinding

MIAMISBURG, OH - The Blohm Precimat 306 CNC, an affordable, flexible surface and profile grinding system from United Grinding Technologies, Inc. (UGT), is the newest solution of choice for both flat surface grinding and creepfeed applications. And not just because of a very attractive price/performance ratio.

Chris Stine, vice president, says the Precimat CNC machines are ideal for both single-piece production or batch production. "Much of the Precimat 306 CNC's appeal resides in its versatility to address small lots and highly precise jobs, typical of tool and die and medical applications, to higher-volume runs commonly associated with many other industries, " says Stine.

The Precimat 306 CNC is designed from the ground up around a modular concept common to all Blohm machines. The machines are assembled from base modules, including the machine bed, column, wheelhead and machine table. These modules are manufactured in batches to assure absolute quality and consistency in machine construction. Specific guideways, drives, and controls are then added to the assembled base to meet customer-specific requirements. High-precision linear guideways in all axes consist of 6-row ball bearing systems. The Precimat 306 CNC work area is entirely enclosed to fully contain high-pressure coolant.

Specifications
The grinding range is 600 mm x 300 mm. Table clamping area is 1,000 mm x 300 mm. Distance between table surface and spindle center is 125 mm to 575 mm, while the grinding wheel is 300 mm x 50 mm x 76.2 mm (optional 400 mm x 80 mm x 127 mm).

The 5.9 kW variable speed main spindle achieves speeds from 5,100 rpm, standard (11 kW, optional). The Precimat 306 CNC can be configured with either a horizontal grinding spindle or a vertical grinding spindle.

Axes travels: X-axis travel is 700 mm with a rapid traverse of 30 mm/min to 30,000 mm/min. Y-axis travel is 450 mm with a rapid traverse of 4 mm/min to 3,750 mm/min. Z-axis travel is 280 mm with a rapid traverse of 4 mm/min to 4,000 mm/min. High-precision ball screws in all machine axes are standard.

Dressing
Dressing options include a universal dressing unit, tiltable (pneumatically controlled) for single point dressing diamonds, diamond blades and diamond chisels, and a table-mounted dresser for universal diamond dressing disks for contour dressing. The diamond roll arbors can be tilted for calibrating of grinding wheels. For high volume requirements, a full form diamond roll system can be applied.

Control
A user-friendly Siemens 840 D CNC control features a 26.4 cm color flat screen which is cleanly arranged for simplified programming with menu bars, softkeys and a Windows(TM) graphic user interface. Setup is fully supported and aided by iconographics, and optional parallel operation permits programs to be entered and optimized during the grinding process. Loop interrupt cycles allow intermediate measurement. Other features include DNC capability and remote diagnostics via modem/phone line.

Although programming on the 840 D is fast, easy and straightforward (no sophisticated programming expertise required), complex part geometries and grinding routines can be solved with equal ease and flexibility. Tool management of up to 40 dressing tools and 50 grinding wheels permits quick and simple changeovers. Standard cycles and macros enable fast, simple program generation. In addition, the programming system "Blohm Profile" is available for generating complex contour sub-programs for continuous path controlled grinding and dressing, which includes simulation for all contour dressing operations, eliminating potential collisions during actual dressing.

Blohm Maschinenbau GmbH has been building surface and profile grinding machines for more than 50 years. The "standard" for precision, quality and reliability in surface and profile grinding, Blohm has more than 15,000 installations world wide. Blohm surface and profile grinding machines are supported by an expert team of grinding specialists and a worldwide support and service network.
