New Landis LT1-1200 CNC Grinder Accommodates Long Shafts

Waynesboro, Penn., February 24, 2005 — Landis Grinding Systems has introduced a 1200 mm-length version of its lean, agile LT1 CNC shaft grinder to accommodate longer parts such as camshafts for diesel and L6 automotive engines.

Compact and affordable, the innovative LT1 CNC grinder has been developed to meet the need for economy, flexibility and high precision by OEMs and Tier suppliers as well as aftermarket manufacturers. In addition to camshafts, the highly flexible LT1 efficiently grinds small crankshafts—pins and concentric diameters all in one set up. The LT1 is also an ideal solution for short-run processing of concentric and non-concentric single- and multiple-diameter shafts.

Capable of grinding speeds up to 200 m/sec, the Landis LT1 CNC grinder has been optimized for use with CBN abrasives. Machine features include a rigid, FEA-optimized cast iron bed; linear motor driven, hydrostatic wheel feed system; motorized hydrostatic high-speed spindle; and a stiff, linear-guided foot stock with high-speed rotary dresser. The LT1’s powerful, easy-to-use PC-based open architecture control, ergonomic design for manual or automatic loading, and available 80 to 350 mm diameter wheel size contribute to its flexibility. The LT1 CNC grinder reduces floorspace requirements by approximately 25%. Full mist and coolant containment guarding is provided with easy access to wiring, piping and components for ease of maintenance.
