ROMER Introduces STINGER IIi Portable CMM

Affordable CMM Features Patented Infinite Rotation and New Zero-G(TM) Counterbalance System

Wixom, MI - November 7, 2006 - ROMER Inc. announced today the release of its STINGER IIi portable CMM, the company's latest offering for engineers and manufacturers who require powerful inspection and reverse-engineering coordinate measurement capabilities. The STINGER IIi is an affordable, lightweight CMM with high-end features such as ROMER's patented Infinite Rotation, a new Zero-G Counterbalance System, and "intelligent" quick-change probes. The ROMER mobile measurement product line is used worldwide by the automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery, and general engineering industries.

The STINGER IIi integrates ROMER's patented Infinite Rotation of principle axes to enable unfettered inspection of hard-to-reach areas of a part. The product also includes the new Zero-G(TM) Counterbalance system that significantly reduces operator fatigue. This feature effectively offsets the weight of the arm and probe for ease of operation and one-handed execution.

"With the introduction of the STINGER IIi, we now offer a full range of CMMs to meet the precision needs and budgets of our customer base. This new product is our mid-level offering between our entry-level STINGER II and our top-of-the line INFINITE arm series," states Tom Moran, President of ROMER, Inc. "The STINGER IIi is a highly versatile arm that delivers state-of-the-art features for unlimited inspection and measurement uses."

The mobile CMM also comes with "intelligent" quick-change probes that eliminate the need for tools or re-calibration. The system automatically recognizes and compensates for the type of probe installed by the operator. ROMER is the only metrology company to provide a NIST-traceable calibrated length standard with its arms for field calibration. This capability allows an operator to easily verify and document system performance to meet ISO requirements.

The STINGER's ultra-portable design weighs in at 3.6 to 4.5 kg (8 to 10 lbs.), which allows the arm to be moved easily throughout a job site. Although lightweight, the product's carbon fiber composite arm tubes are far stronger than steel and dimensionally stable regardless of temperature. The STINGER IIi is currently available in 8-, 10- and 12-foot configurations.
