CAE Software enables nondestructive evaluation and testing.

Press Release Summary:

CIVA v8 utilizes semi-analytical expressions to depict transmission field as presented from probe into substrate, and reception signal returning to probe, accounting for interaction with flaws. Featuring flexible phased array probe that automatically computes necessary delay laws, software enables import of CAD geometry and use of multiple layers for substrate medium. It can model calibration, planar, multi-faceted, and 2D CAD defects as flaws.

Magsoft Shows the Flaws with NDE

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y., Jan. 11 // - Magsoft Corporation announces the release of CIVA V8.0. CIVA is a computer-aided-engineering (CAE) simulation software for Non-Destructive Evaluation [NDE] and Non-Destructive Testing [NDT]. CIVA is developed by the Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique [CEA] in Paris, France.

CIVA utilizes semi-analytical expressions to accurately depict both the transmission fields as they would be presented from a probe into a substrate medium [Field mode] and also the reception signal that returns to the probe from the substrate medium taking into account the interaction with flaws [Echo mode]. Using either ultrasonic or eddy current fields, the user can explore a variety of scenarios for the probe characteristics in order to adequately predict the presence of an unwanted flaw located within the substrate.

This new release of CIVA has several enhancements, but boasts the following new features:

o Accurately model a complex geometry shape for the backwall of the
substrate medium
o Import CAD geometry to depict either the substrate cross-section or
the flaw
o Use isotropic, heterogeneous, composite or anisotropic materials for
the substrate medium
o Use multiple layers for the substrate medium and utilize the
associated structural noise for each layer
o Flexible Phased Array Probe
o Ray tracing tool

The phased array probe also features the ability to automatically compute the necessary delay laws. This capability exists whether the probe is intended for a focused point, a series of focused points, beam steering, sectorial scanning, or for providing different delay laws for transmission and reception.

The application of flaws into CIVA has also been extended. Flaws can now be:

o Calibration defects
o Planar defects; with arbitrary size and orientation
o Multi-faceted defects
o 2D CAD defects
o Solid inclusions

Philippe Wendling, Vice President of Magsoft Corporation states that "our lives depend upon the success of NDE in many applications and markets. CIVA V8 has a leg up on the simulation competition, and we believe that our customers will lead the innovative development of NDE probes and systems into the future."
