Stratus Announces Split-Site Disaster Recovery and iSCSI SAN for Avance High-Availability Software

MAYNARD, Mass., May 4 / -- Stratus Technologies, Inc. today announced the addition of business continuity and disaster recovery enhancements for Stratus Avance(TM) high-availability software. With the introduction of Split-site, Avance transforms business continuity execution for small and mid-size businesses from an exercise in damage control to instant and transparent recovery from a localized disaster. With built-in virtualization, support for both Windows and Linux operating systems, and 99.99 percent uptime protection, the Avance product provides the SMB marketplace with the most versatile high-availability software product available today.

Split-site allows paired standard x86 servers to be separated geographically to increase disaster recovery protection, providing small and medium-size businesses with cost-effective protection against outages.

Physical separation of the server pair provides immediate protection against a variety of localized disaster scenarios such as lightning strikes, structural damage, hard equipment failure, theft, etc.

The new version of Avance software also simplifies administrative tasks with the enhancements to Web-enabled remote systems management. Additional features include: iSCSI SAN support for Dell EqualLogic PS5000E; internal RAID 0, 1 & 5; and deployment and operations management enhancements. This version of Avance software is available now.

"Virtualization and high availability are increasingly seen by the marketplace as inseparable," noted Chris Wolf, Burton Group senior analyst. "In previous years, cost has been the primary barrier that has held back the deployment of highly available virtual infrastructures in branch or small offices. There are solutions available today that now allow organizations to virtualize small and branch office environments, with the performance and resiliency they require, and at a cost they can afford."

Avance software automatically and instantly provides high availability after a rapid self-installation, eliminating any need for failover scripting, repeated testing, and making applications cluster-aware. Stratus Avance software nearly eliminates application restarts. Avance technology detects errors and continues processing during all but the most catastrophic hardware and software failures. For users, particularly in small and medium enterprises and enterprise edge applications, 99.99 percent uptime routinely means no application interruptions, data loss or client disconnects.
